We did in October! I was in the pool when Bob shouted, it took us a few seconds to realise that the visitors before us had left a plastic toy alligator in the filter bit of the pool!:D

The pool area's all seemed to have the covers (lanai I think there called) over. They are made of mesh so nothing could get in.

Don't worry about the alligators but make sure you look down the toilets for the snakes.

Somehow I don't think a bug net would stop an alligator.
But I have never seen an alligator in the many times that I have stayed in Villas over the years. They tend to avoid humans so would keep away from housing estates in general.
I obviously cannot guarantee it (as sods law would prove me wrong) but it would be highly unlikely and I am sure the odds are huge. So please reassure her that it would be a rare circumstance for an alligator to be in your pool.
Here is a piccy but I am sure its rare :D

OMG !!!:D
Not seen an alligator but did find a snake in the pool one evening when we returned from the parks.
Managed to scoop it out using the pool cleaning net and then get it out of the meshed area. It was only small and didn't rattle:D

I know someone who found a snake inside their car one morning, which had been in the garage overnight, they must have left a window open:eek:
The only wildlife we saw in the villa was a tiny lizard in our bedroom when we arrived last time. DH and i spent about an hour trying to catch it, as i wouldn't sleep in there till it was gone, and believe me they are FAST! :D
Saw an aligator on a footpath at Silver Springs, it was about 4 feet from the walk- way and could have eaten us if it wanted to!

We saw a gator right at the edge of the spring at Silver Springs too, just about 6 feet away from where we were queuing for one of the boat rides.
my mum will collapse if she saw that picture

we stayed in a villa in april and right outside the lanai was an alligator,it swam over each morning and stayed all day watching us.we went out taking pics and got quite close to it,it didnt bother about us.was a bit unnerving at first but we got used to it quite quickly and never bothered then.it put the wits up us when we sat outside at night cos it came right up to the screen and started growling, maybe it wanted a beer
OMG where did you stay????

The alligator must have been fed by previous tenants and was looking for a handout. Probably best not to feed it. You do not want them to associate humans with food!

It is illegal to feed them ... as they will only end up being relocated or even euthanised if they lost their fear of humans...
and it did look like this one wasn't scared .. no lakes behind the villas I choose LOL

We rented one of the cabins in Blue Springs State park a few years back, and had gators and racoons as neighbours during the night hours. you could pick out the eyes with a torch when going for an evening stroll on the walkways.
A great experience.

the 2nd day we were there i was talking to the pool cleaning guy and he said it is illegal to feed them for the reason you said about them getting used to humans.apparently if you are caught doing it you will get a huge fine and as you say the gator would probably lose its life
