We are visiting the sunshine state in 9 days times and are staying at the Homewood Suites Universal. I am led to believe this is a new hotel. Has anyone stayed there yet and if so what is it like? :mickey:
Hi Ellen, where in somerset are you? we are only 9 miles from yeovil. Heres a copy of a pm that I sent to someone after our stay.
We stayed at the Homewood last week oct 1st week Nov 03
The Suites themselves are superb value for money, and deserve more than their 3 stars. Seperate bedroom with two queen beds, en suite bathroom and vanity area. Living area with sleeper sofa, and chair, dining table for 4, and kitchen with hob microwave dishwasher, coffee maker ( take a travel kettle if you like tea!!)
and HUGE fridge/freezer. 2 tv's(but chanels are very limited) pay per view movies, internet access via the tv, and dataport. Maid service was excellent and rooms were kept very clean. They even do the dishes if as on one occasion I hadn't bothered. Free american newspaper every weekday.
The breakfast was good, Scrambled eggs or omellettes, bacon or sausages, make your own waffles (yum) toast, fruit, cereals, bagels etc etc. youcan eat it there or there are trays so that you can take back to your room. Tea coffee hot chocolate etc available all day at no charge, and you can take milk back to your room. There is an managers reception on weekday evenings between 5-7 where you get beer ( lager) wine and soft drinks and a light meal but we were only there twice (still in the parks!!)
eg chilli or jacket potatoes. and once again you can take these back to your room, the lager comes in jugs.
The convenience store is VERY small, ( about 6 feet square) and doesn't stock much at all. you can order groceries to be delivered to your room, they give you a list, but this seemed expensive to us. There is a small but very nice pool, and hot tub,bbq area and basket ball court outside. and a fitness centre and amusement arcade inside, which you need your room key to access.
The re was some building work going on next door when we were there, but it was almost completed, so I don't think that it would cause any problems. In fact we were given a couple of free movies to make up for any inconvenience, but to be honest, it didn't cause any problems at all.
You DO need a car though if you want to do disney. You can see universal from the hotel, but its the other side of I4, and we didn't fancy walking it although some did And they provide a shuttle.Wet and wild is within walking distance (though not with small children) There is a Dennys in walking distance, and you could use the trolly bus, but I really would reccomend a car.
Be careful when turning off Idrive to go to the hotel, its a really nasty left turn. aftera few days we found it was much safer and easier to turn into the sheraton car park (you can't miss the tower) and exit it from the other end then you get straight onto the road where homewood is ( did that make sense) use skull kingdom as a marker, then take the next turning left into the sheraton.
Hope all that makes sense,if you want to know anything else pm me

Thank for the info. I will let you know how we get on with the hotel, but it seems as though it is a nice place.

Ellen we are staying there in September, so any feedback good or bad would be welcomed. Also the route driving there from sandford would be useful if you dont mind.
