We're staying for 2 nights this October. If no-one else comes on I'd be happy to let you know how it was when we come back. Got the room for $156 per night through Travelocity which seems to be a good deal. We're staying in Ft Lauderdale and going down for the weekend.

Brindle - havent stayed at this resort but have stayed at the Chesapeake in Islamorada, very nice. Clean rooms especially the suites overlooking the sea lovely relaxed atmosphere, didnt use any facilities there though so cant comment on that. Ideally located about half way to key West, wouldnt hesitate to go to there again but have considered Hawks Cay - so look forward to others comments on this resort.

Are there any 2 or 3 bed suites at any of the resorts?

Not sure Brindle - we're only going for the 2 nights so just having a standard hotel room. I think they do have bungalows/suites - have a look on www.hawkscay.com

have thoyght long and hard about whether to do this post as i don't want to ruin anybodys trip. i have stayed there the resort iseautiful the swimming pools and the salt swimming lagoon are perfect. we had breakfast and lunch there the evening meal was where we found it difficult. we relly did not want 5* meals every night. so it meant a drive to marathon or islamorada and then we could not find much more than dennys or ihop. in short we found it rather isolated. the drive to key west took approx 1hr we really enjoyed that and have since stayed at the qualit inn key west every trip. if you like a chilling out stay and dont mind staying on property most of the time you really will enjoy it it is quite stunning. have you looked at their website complete with steel band!?

I've booked a 2 bed villa there for next march - I would have preferred a 3 bed but they have a 7 night minimum (at least for when we're going they do).
The villa has a kitchenette, so I'm planning to have some 'low key' meals there, without needing to do the 5* meal thing the whole time. Your advice is welcome, susan - we'll obvisouly need to plan some trips out to Denny's and Ihop as cheap alternatives and I'm glad to know its only an hour down to KW.
For us, the added attractions of thbis resort are the dolphin programmes (which are not very adventurous - no deep water) which will suit us well and we want to book the sunset cruise and snorkelling straight from the resort...

Your comments have only made us look forward to it even more Susan!! As we're only stying for 2 nights the meals should not be a problem. DD is keen on doing kids night out which will leave DH and I at a loose end which we may just need to fill with a 5* dining experience!! I can see a longer stay may pose more problems but I'm looking forward to a little bit of luxury in my 2 day break from Fort Lauderdale!. Many thanks for your comments.
