Hi all,

I am thinking about taking my 78 year old great-aunt away somewhere for Christmas, but have no idea where to go. It can either be this country or abroad, but we'll need 2 rooms, which will make it expensive. Would want to leave either 23rd or 24th Dec and go for between 3/4 nights and a week.

Anyone any suggestions that will appeal to a 78 year old and a 31 year old?

Florida!!

What kind of length flight/car journey do you want?

LOL, JDG! Yeah, I thought about Florida, but it would be too expensive since we need two rooms, though if I can find a cheap deal I would be more than happy to go back, as I know my aunt would adore it.

Flight length isn't a major issue if we went for a week or more (I can't finish work until Dec 22nd and have to be back for Jan 3rd). The other option is going in the car, but I should point out that I now live in Hampshire and my aunt is in Edinburgh. The options would be I fly up there and we go from Edinburgh, or she flies down here a few days beforehand and we go from London, or I drive up and then we go somewhere within a few hours drive - I thought about the Lake District, but they're all about £400 each for 3 nights.

What about a 2 bedroom suite or 2 adjoining rooms at a value resort (just a though!)

The lake district is beautiful (we were there briefly last week), what about London (lots of good show, shopping, museums)

London is my backup, as she could come down here to stay, but we would just stay here rather than a hotel if we did that, so would have nothing to do on Christmas day :(

I thought about a suite, but it's flights that are costly - Nearly £700 each for economy with VA.

What about somewhere snowy? I've just been looking at 3 or 5 day trips to Lapland

Disneyland Paris?

Was just thinking about DLP - have never been. Any ideas where I need to look to get a quote for two rooms, as opposed to one?

try here (http://booking.disneylandparis.com/public_html/en/page2.jsp?pays=74,49,dlpael02&compte=dlpael02)

It's DLP's own site - there's also a phone number you could call to ask for a quote.

Ooh, never been to Prague. BTW, Anna, I'm in Aldershot as well :)

We know Aldershot well - I'm a Farnham girl myself!

JDG, I'm thinking about moving to Farnham when my lease is up in a few months :)

Farnham's very pretty - we're visiting on Sunday

Hello neighbours - I work in Farnham and live in Fleet and lived in Aldershot for years!

Just back from DLP and so could recommend that as a short trip if your G-Aunt is up to the walking. You could take a day out in Paris and there is a discount shopping village 5 mins by train - but don't know what the opening hours would be around Xmas.

Happy planning....

Bruges is fantastic at Christmas, only one hour flight to Brussels or Eurostar, then train to Bruges. (Included in Eurostar fare).

:( My aunt has said no to Prague as she thinks it will be too cold for her, and DLP would probably be too busy at Christmas for either of us to enjoy it. Plus, I didn't like the idea of leaving her on her own while I did the rides.

Monkeehanger - Bruges sounds good, but do they have anything open on Christmas Day? The reason we don't want stay in the UK is that nothing is open on the big day so, unless Bruges has tours and stuff to do, it's not going to be of any use :(

Does anyone have any other ideas?

look at shearings self drive brochure or their coach holidays. We go on the self drive alot. Cant fault them. good food. entertainment every night. no supplements for single rooms. try them. i can recommend the New Southlands at scarborough
