View Full Version : Passport renewal how long?
A friend of mine asked me today if my DS11 had a valid passport as she was thinking of booking a last minute holiday to Spain, and if she did she was going to ask if DS wanted to go as company for her son. I know her well so this is no problem, and DS and her son get on well.
I checked his passport when I got home to find it expired in March. Does anyone know if how long passports are taking to come back using the two week check and send service?
Also if I did this and the passport had not arrived in time, could I then ring up and make an appointment to get the passport within 48 hours (I know this would cost me extra)

I had to have my kids taken of my passport and get their own ones (5 kids in total:( ) paid for the check and send service at the post office, recieved all 5 back within 6 days. I thought this was excellent.
Was that recently?. I just though Aug would be the busiest time for last minute renewals.

This was in May but my next door neighbour has just had her daughters one done and it took the same ammount of time. Hope this helps.
Thanks I'll get to the post office tomorrow morning.
Judy you can do it online too - I filled the form in online and it came to me within 48 hours. Signed it and sent it back with new photos and it was back within 4 days. Amazing!
It said on the passport web site don't use this service if you want it back within 2 weeks, because it wasn't guaranteed. What do you do about the photo if you do it this way?
Ooops sorry Edie I hadn't read your post properly about the photo bit.

Oh right - I wasn't in a hurry when I did DS's so I missed this bit. You're close enough to Liverpool to go in person if you really need to aren't you? Good luck!
Hi Judy
I sent my passport away on the 22nd July, knowing that I still had 7 weeks till my holiday for any problems. I received everything back 6 days after I posted it. It took less time to get my passport back than it did for my cheque to cash:p:
I would maybe send it normal post and hope for the best.

I filled in the on-line form on Thursday because I want to change my name to my married name and I still have not heard anything! Have just checked the bank and they have not taken the money either. Not sure what to do now! Think I will give it a week and see what happens.

The mother in law sent her passport of using standard royal mail registered post then reviver a letter bank saying that there was no old passport no photos the only thing in there was the payment and the form. Then ended up having a three week argument with them. She got a new one in the end but it took 6 weeks. I would always send it by the postoffice check and send as they put it in a heavy duty plastic bag
My friend sent hers back last week and she got her new one this morning and she's pleased that she's not changed enough to have to have it countersigned!!...lol

Sorry to hijack the thread but just thinking ..My middle son is still on my passport but is 17 now ..He isnt coming with us but will i need to send it off to have him removed before i can use it again ?? I hope not :(
Hey the new passport is here! I only went to the post office at 5pm on Tuesday so thats less than 4 days:cool:
In answer to the above question I wouldn't of thought you'd need to get your son taken off your passport, but I would ring the passport office to make sure.
