My parents were due to fly out to Beijing yesterday at 20.25, however their incoming Air China plane was cancelled and so their flight was put back and finally took off at 3.40pm today. So thats a 17 hour delay. Air China were very good and put them up in hotel with evening meal and breakfast.
Can anyone tell me if they can expect to get anything else?

If the flight was 'cancelled' and they were put onto another flight then they can expect a payout through the new EU regs. They must make this request to the airline first and state why they want the money and on what grounds, to make it clear as quite new legislation. The only other proviso was that it was a flight to a European destination.

Opps just reread your post and as it is Air China think that this does not apply to them as they are not an EU airline, but wort a letter to them anyway especially if this caused any inconvenience.

I think with the new rules that have come into affect, you have to be delayed at least 24 hours before you can claim cash compensation. :(

With a cancelled flight the rule come into play near enough straight away but only if an EU carrier flying into a EU country or leaving a EU country.
