Regret to say that apart from the speedway I have always thought that Daytona is a bit of a dump. Apart from walking up and down the beach we have never found anything to do.

the only other thing you can do is drive down the beach. They hire quad bikes and petrol golf buggies, quite fun though

I was going to say that there was a good chance of getting run down whilst you were walking up and down the beach but didn't want to put them off:D :D :D

We are going to Datona for the Biketoberfest in October. We are great fans of Orange County Choppers and west coast choppers so hoping to meet both crews there!!

I liked Daytona, stayed on the beach for a bit then went shopping (naturally!!) on the way back.
Not much there really.

Stayed 4 days there at the Best Western (Tiki) hotel.... very nice... beautiful weather... great seas.... and the walks along the beach to the pier were fantastic.... they have a nice little watering hole on the pier that knocks out pitchers of beer than come in very useful after that walk!!

I would go there again...

Personally I don't think there is very much there. We go every couple of years for some unknown reason and then get back to Kissimmee a couple of hours later wondering why we bothered.
One of the good things about it is that they have cleaned up all the strip clubs and topless bars that used to be an 'attraction' some years ago.:D :D

The Bikefest is pretty huge and parking will be at a premium, but what an atmosphere though.

Gemma,if DH is a petrolhead like myself then the Speedway http://www.daytonausa.com/ is like our Mecca.
Please note though, entrance to the actual speedway is free and if you are lucky [we have been twice] you might get to see cars practicing around the oval.

The Daytona USA attraction http://www.daytonausa.com/ is superb and has cars, exhibitions and all the trophys on display eg. Winston Cup,Daytona 500 and the Pepsi 400 trophys. There is a pit challenge thing and a superb film show.
You have to pay for the Daytona USA and can also pay a bit extra for a track tour. They have a tram similar to the things at Disney that takes you onto the track,up close to the bankings, across the pit areas and the RV park, pit lane and also photo opportunity [own camera] stood up on Victory Lane podium.
The track tour can be done seperately if not wanting to see the exhibition,it costs about $7 thats all,and is well worth it.

The ultimate thrill though has to be the Richard Petty Ride Along.
2 seater Stockcars where a pro will take you 3 laps round the Daytona Speedway at speeds of around 160mph.
Take a look here for the schedule http://www.1800bepetty.com/
But note that it may be advisable to ring as sometimes RPDE are at Daytona although not shown on website [as I found to my dissapointment last April].

The beach is nice and can get busy at weekends and for other stuff take a look at www.daytonabeach.com I think you'll be surprised how much there is to do if you want to.

Check out the Angel & Phelps chocolate factory at Daytona beach, small family run unit but the end products are absolutely gorgeous.

Hope this helps

Stuart

Stu,hope I havent overdone it with the addy's ,but was just wanting to show how much there is at Daytona.Apollogies if I have.
