Hi,
A friend of mine is going to Orlando in October and is looking at staying in a Villa as there's 6 of them. Last year they stayed near Gatorland, but found it to far out from WDW. They have been offered a villa on the Old Lake Wilson road and have been told that it is 10 minutes from WDW. Does anyone know if this is correct? Like I told her, their roads are alot bigger than ours, and could be 30 - 40 minutes long!!
My friend was hoping to find something near Splendid China. Would really appreciate some help on this!! Thanks.

Check out the Dibb Villa map (http://www.thedibb.co.uk/villa/map.htm) to see how long Lake Wilson Rd is.
I'm not sure if there are any villa developments on this road within 10 mins of Disney - my DB stayed there once at it was at least 20 miutes away.

Old Lake Wilson Road is a good location very near to Splendid China and the Sherberth Road shortcut to WDW so 10 mins is about right.

Would be a lot easier and more useful if these people started quoting distances in miles rather than minutes then everyone would be able to work out what they meant.
It might be 10 minutes but thats doubtful. It might be 20 minutes. Whatever it is its not too far out.

We stayed at Westagte Vacation Villas in 2000 (on Old Lake Wilson Road). It was very close to Disney (2 sets of traffic lights on I192).

we stayed on Indian Ridge Oaks and we were at the Animal Kingdom Park within ten minutes..(using the Sherbeth Road shortcut) Sorry Terry but I havent a clue how many miles it was...but it is the nearest villa area that you are gonna get (Formosa area)
Walt Disney world is huge so if you are meaning the Magic Kingdom, when you say Disney, then you can at the least double this time.
Old Lake Wilson Road is quite long ..have you not got the actual community to go by?

Many thanks everyone for your replies, I am passing them on to my friend. Maybe she will become a "dibber"!!
I have just looked at the email she forwarded to me and the community seems to be called "Sandy Ridge"
I know that WDW is vast, so when they give times from Disney, I know that it is meant to be for the "main gate" and not MK. I think many first timers get confused by this.
Thanks again, and please all your views would be very helpful. Claire.
hi
it is about 2 miles from the junction of old lake wilson road and 192 to the maingate entrance of wdw, via sherberth road route

Looking at where Sandy ridge is I would not think it was 10 minutes away. It is down near Reunion..

Looking at where Sandy Ridge is on the Dibb map and considering that the Formosa Gdns area is 10 minutes from Disney 'proper' then I would say that you would have to double that time :)

Sandy Ridge is a new estate that hasn't been fully completed yet. It is approx 2 mins drive to Champions Gate shopping area (Publix, McDonalds etc) and around 10 mins drive to the 192 along Old Wilson Road. It is a bit way out if you want to visit the International Drive area but a good choice for visiting 192 and Disney properties. It's one of the nicest I have visited in Orlando and I've been on the majority of them. So don't worry.

Weve stayed down on The CR54 that runs across the bottom of Old lake Wilson Rd ,twice.
From CR54 to top of OLWR takes approx 10 mins and then 10 more mins to Disney [5 mins to AK] via the Sherberth Rd route.
Lot of development going on down near Champions Gate area, but most of these houses and resorts being built were halfway there last April ,so will be near finished now I would imagine. It'll look fantastic when its all finished
Still a nice area for a villa, and not far from the action on the 192 /Maingate area.
