Its our first time in New York, i hear people get trips outside new york to either niagra falls or other landmarks/places etc.
How of a trip can you go and be back in a day? Which transport is best, the greyhound or Amtrak?
any suggestions

Going to Niagra from NYC is a fair trek on a 3 day visit unless your flying up.
If this is your first visit to New York, three days will just about start you off discovering the city, without needing to go outside it IMHO.
Been four times and i've still not seen everything yet.

Nigara Falls is a good half day drive, if not more away from NYC so i'd wouldn't recommend it as a day trip unless you fly which would be pretty pricey! Stay in NYC, there is LOADS to do! I've been twice so far and i haven't even touched the surface of the place yet! Definately do a Grayline hop on/hop off tour, the downtown loop and brooklyn loop are not to be missed. You get a great over view of the city and you can get on and off as much as you want.

We are flying to Niagara Falls:D :D :D leava about 4.30am and return sometime after 7pm. We are in NY for 10 days, so i dont think i would bother if i was only in NY for 3 days.

I agree with the others. We were there for 6 days and that was only just about long enough to do the must see things. 3 days is a really short time and you will easily find things in the city to do for those days.
You will have a fab time - it is such a great place! Dont forget to buy your subway pass - dead cheap and efficient.

I have been to NY more times than I can remember - and even now I am doing things that I have never done before. My DH & I drove to Niagara Falls in Canada and to be honest it takes much more than half a day to drive there. We have also done a night at Atlantic City, gambling - a huge amount of fun, but still a good drive from NY. I would just content yourself with staying in Manhattan and seeing what you can there and arrange for another trip to go further afield!! Whatever you do, have fun.
