Does anyone know of any caravan sites in Orlando where you can purchase a static caravan? We have a static caravan over here and my DH said if he could find a site in Orlando he would buy one over there. Well i'm all for that so i'm relying on you guys to provide info so he cant back down, lol.

Pretty sure I saw some 'Park Homes' for sale on HW 27. Thye were $30k to $40k so the price sounds about right.

There was a site on the 27 on the left going south towards Highlands reserve, dont know what it was like but remember seeing it - there are bound to be others.

I remember thinking to myself that those units must have a mega effecient air con unit, they must be like an oven in full sun?

If its the normal type static trailer caravan ,and not the expensive doublewide 3and 4 bed /2 bath units that you are looking at,there is a large trailer/RV camp down the bottom end of Old Lake Wilson Rd.

If I remember rightly ,there is one on the US27 heading down towards Florida pines and Highlands Reserve.

And I remember there being a park down Bass Rd.This is the road down the side of Walmart on the 192 that takes you to the rear of Indian Point.

IMO,all in nice areas

A hurricane zone is NOT where I would want to have a "trailer", did you see the state of the trailer parks after last year !! Some of them literally moved half a mile up the road.

The more permanent mobile homes are lovely. we looked round some on the 27 a few years ago and they had every amenity, including aircon. I think they are fairly well attached to the ground to, they are still there!

Thanks for all the info, will consider all, althougth the more fixed variety is what i'm after, dont want to be blown away in the middles of the might, lol. Mind you, i'm a seasoned caravanner, starting off in a 6 man tent and working my way up to a 38 x 12, double glazed, central heated static!! Been stuck on the top of a hill in Berwick in a little tourer in 80 mile an hour winds 1 time though, that was scarey!!

That sounds like a good idea, mousemad, i might have to consider buying one myself, a lot cheaper than a villa, i'm sure! *lol*

Does anyone know of any websites where you can view examples and get general ideas of prices etc?

This is the only website i've found so far, i havent really had time to look yet, being jetlagged an all. I think you have to like the caravan lifestyle to do this, but then i do and really some of them are as big as a hotel room arent they? Its knowing what to search for, do they call them 'trailers' or maybe 'mobile homes'? Be grateful if anyone knows of any other websites?

Hmmmmm I am not sure about this as lots of people have permanent homes in Trailers in the USA and they are not always desirable areas...

Though I know there is a 'campground' on Oren Brown Road that is vacationers I think ... well we hard them singing campfire songs from our villa at night :D

Never thought of that option in Florida. Okay you have the risks of hurricanes, but if you took out new for old cover, or ensure that your insurance covers storm damage fully(insurance companies do have clauses about storm damage cover) then you should be ok.

Its a good idea because it has good rental potential and are reasonably cheap to maintain, but being an insurance advisor for a static insurance company, I'm sick to death of statics and park homes!

Re the insurance cover you will probably have a huge excess - we have $1000 excess on hurricane damage and that's on a villa, trailers are a lot higher risk because they are less secure.

Many of the owners are actually Canadians and 'snowbirds' who spend their winters in Florida and their summers at home.

I have seen them on the internet before and some of them are stunning inside, sorry I can't remember the website name though, I'm sure a Google search would find something.

We also looked around some of the communities on the 27 a couple of years ago.Fantastic homes and nothing like a caravan at all.
When a hurricane is due ,the owners use storm straps,a bit like caravanners do with their awnings, but these things are quite substantial and fasten right over the rooftops.

If searching for sites on the net,try typing in "Manufactured Homes". I havent tried myself but it might just be the answer.

BnDamo, your photo did make me laugh , well at least we'd have a good view, lol. I've had a static caravan for 6 years now and when we first started, we ran a caravan letting agency, looking after other peoples caravans for them, so i kinda know about letting caravans and all that goes with it (insurance. site fees, rates etc... ) Now i just look after my own and only let it to my good customers who i know will look after it.
