We were originally booked to stay in a standard room at the Tradewinds Sandpiper, but we got a letter from our tour operator that stated the sandpiper was still under renovation and we were going to be booked into a standard room in the sister hotel Tradewinds Island Grand, which im told is a much better hotel.
I have read trip reports where people are sometimes asked if they want an upgrade but never knew how much they paid, so i emailed the hotel and asked how much would it be for a gulf front room/suite. I got a reply saying it would be 150 dollars per night.
This must be a mistake surely?????

I don't think so as the rack rate for a gulf view room at this resort is over $300 a night.

No it's almost certainly not a mistake. Gulf View rooms command premium rates all along that coast. We had a standard room with a view over Pirate Island where the kids are entertained and we could just glimpse the sea. It was fine and if you want the gulf view just go and sit on the beach chairs.

i agree. a standard room is fine for us. We will hardly be spending any time in there anyway.

We had a superior room when we satyed there but no view. We thought at first that we would like to change but we noticed that the sea view rooms had chairs on the patio and people tended to sit out late at night and it was a bit noisier - there was also a convention on at the time - of a drugs company. We stayed where we were and it was great - good big room and very quiet. We could go and sit out by the beach in the evening if we wanted as there were plenty of places to sit. It's a very nice hotel and the rooms were lovely.
