Hi I don't have an answer for you sorry but we will be there at the same time and we are also looking to buy a new digital camera, so I just wanted to subscribe to the thread Sorry again. But have you had a look on walmarts website it's quite good and apparently if you buy from there and have a prob when you get home you can return it to Asda.

www.walmart.com Have to say when we bought ours i looked and did not see any real difference with the price so I opted to buy here. The other thing i found was getting used to digitl took me weeks so getting it in advance meant i was an expert by the time i needed the camera. Got ours from Boots who had my Nikon on offer but its a case of checking everyone for a good offer.
Hope that helps

Caveats:
- bother with refunds if a problem (except perhaps Walmart)
- mains charging device likely only to be 110v - need a step down to use here
- the manual (apart from quick start up) usually comes on a cd
- best to take a camera with which you are familiar
- do you want to spend your holiday researching and finding a camera?
- do you want to spend your duty free allowance on a camera?
You can get good deals over the internet from Pixmania and other companies. I looked at and handled the cameras in Jessop's and Dixons then ordered the one I wanted online and saved about £80

Hi,
I may be too late to comment but you have made the right decision in my opinion.
I wanted to buy last year but money restraints made me wait...
I had a 2mp camera already..When on holiday i saw the quality of my nephews 5mp and had the bug again. I knew what i wanted and how much the net were charging in the uk.
I was expecting to pay about £240 in uk...I was quoted from$400 up to $625 in big "discount" camera shops...
As it happened i bought a camera and 256mb card for £258 (converted) from walmart, if anything went wrong i thought i stood some chance of repair but once scanned a $449 price came up as $349..dual voltage so just cut plug off once at home...
Long winded so to summarise...I got IMO a bargain but in the same position i would not do it again....Took a few days to be conversant with operation.
Regards,
Paul.
