We are considering buying a mini dv camcorder for our holiday, the Sony DCRHC22 looks good, does anyone have a knowledge about these or other minidv camcorders, we've never had one before and don't want to get stuck with a monster.
The price on amazon is just under £300 which seems quite good, do you think we would get it cheaper in Florida ? ( I think I'd rather get use to using it before we go unless the savings are big)
Thanks

hi karin
we bought a sony mini dv 2 years ago-its great easy to use and good quality pics.it also has a memory stick slot so you can take still photos too - they aren't as good as a top digi camera but handy just to capture something that happens while you're filming.ours came with quite a small capacity battery so i recommend you buy a larger one to last all day in the parks
don't know if they're cheaper in us but that counts on your duty free allowance and i would recommend getting used to it before you go

We bought a Sony one last year and it's much better than our old one which took tapes.
We usually leave the technical bits to DH, but one thing I do know is that the mini DVD's are much cheaper to buy there than here.
Last year we bought some that were not Sony brand and they work fine.
Just found a box of them, they are Memorex and in a pack of five, there is no price on the box unfortunately but I know they were cheap.
I have recently bought the Sony DCRHC22 from pixmania. It is a great little camcorder. One thing i would suggest though is to get another battery i purchased the replacement battery for the NP-FP70 from amazon, the sony equivalent is a lot dearer. With this extra battery you will be able to record at least 4 hours with the LCD when the battery is fuly charged.
