I'll be visting the Grand Canyon in November, but I'm a little bit unsure on what we'll do when we get there. After having a long look and taking photos, what else is there? We won't be taking any of the trips by plane/helicopter.

Also has anyone else been who has a big problem with heights, how did you find it?

Thanks in advance.

I don't like heights but most of the time I was ok just one part where I looked straight down and there was no barrier, that was a bit scary.
Theres so much to see when you are there, we visited the South Rim and you can walk down or ride a mule to the bottom of the canyon, but we didn't do this as I thought it was unfair to the mules in that heat!!!
Thers a lot of walking to do and lots of little shops to see that you might find a day not long enough!!! I would certainly love to go back again as we only had 1 day there before going on to Hoover Dam and Las Vegas, I hope to repeat this trip in the future.

Hi

Just back from LV and although you say you don't want to do the helicopter, I can say that is was wonderful AND I am afraid of heights. I get dizzy if I stand looking over a balcony more than 2 floors up and am terrified of cliffs and overhanging rocks and generally anything with a drop that isn't fenced off.

Ski-ing terrified me years ago when I got close the the mountain edge.

However, the heli trip was great and I only felt a little edgy once or twice. I can recommend it. However, I've heard there are lots of walks to do in neary parks if that is more your cup of tea.

Happy planning whatever you decide.

Mum And Dad are off to the Grand Canyon at the end of the MOnth - before a cruise in Tahiti/Polynesia, they are staying on the south rim for 2 nights and reckon there is plenty to do. Cant ask them at the mo however as they are away for the weekend.

Are they Never at home?

we viewed the canyon from a couple of different view points and it was incredible, but I liked to have a barrier between me and the edge - and then stand wellback ! :) , but if you can go up in a plane thats the best way to see it, you get a far better idea of the scale of it. oh and if you get chance to watch a sunset it's worth it.

I second the opinion that the helicopter trip to the GC is amazing !

My other half is also not keen on heights byut loved the helicopter flight-it feels like you are simply floating !

Thanks for all the answers, we can't do the flight cos of the price, not cos of the height I should have pointed that out

I'm just unsure I'm going to be able to get anywhere near the edge to see it!

Thanks,
Zoe

When we went a couple of years ago, we flew to GC then had a helicopter ride to the base and then went white water rafting, its a day I will never forget it was fantastic.

I'm afraid of heights and get dizzy so I didn't go to near the edge and managed to see everything, you will love it.
