Hi All

I'm going to Florida in 10 days and really wanted to buy myself a new digi camera. Just wanted to ask a couple of questions and get some advice.

1. What camera would you recommend my price range would probably be around £250 give or take. i have my eye on a fuji 5500

2. Would anyone wait and buy camera in florida if so any particular shop or would you buy in duty free at airport.

I'm never really sure of buying things abroad because of warranty, but would love everyone's advice.

Thanks in advance Lisa

I would buy here so you have chance to figure out how it works. I have a fuji but would be reluctant to recommend them. Mine took brilliant photos for all of 2 months and then developed an intermittent fault that ruins the photos and that fuji denyall knowledge of ( apparently fuji have a bad reputation for aftercare ) my local camerea shop said it looked like pixel damage and fuji were well known for it . When I can afford another I'll probably go for an olympus.

I have just bought the canon ixus 750 - have been away to the west coast of Ireland this past week and took loads of pics. A great compact camera.

I have the Fuji S5500 and it's absolutely wonderful. However, they've now discontinued that model. I bought mine from Amazon for less than £200 in May. You may still be able to get a few going cheap - I'd have a search using Google.

Prices for camera's are about the same over here now, so I think I'd buy over here. There are quite a few rip-off shops in Orlando, so you REALLY need to know your stuff if you're intent on buying over there. Don't forget, you can also get caught at customs and end up paying duty and vat, which sometimes makes it more expensive - buy it here !

You are not likely to save much (if anything) by buying over there, and there is also the warranty issue. We did see some good offers at Duty Free, but I would rather buy here and have some time to get the feel of a new camera before going on holiday with it.

Hi Lisa,
I have got to agree with the above. We looked for my BIL this year and the prices were not that different. I would recommend the Cano range as they are very easy to use with great quality. Buy before you go and have a play first. Dont forget to buy extra memory card before you go as well unless you want to get your pictures put on to a disc out there. (only problem is if you run out of space in a park)
have a great time
Steve
