Hi,

I'm new to all of this so please forgive me if we aren't allowed to talk about holiday destinations other than Walt Disney World :jump:

I'm off to Barcelona on the 29th Oct for two nights. Does anyone have any suggestions where to go and what to see?

Also during the night we would like to go for some nice meals and then maybe on to a club......any suggestions?

Any help will be greatly appreciated :D :D :D

Thanks

Melissa

Hello,

The open top bus tour in Barcelona is well worth doing, there are two routes and if you do them both you can see the whole of the city and get on and off wherever you want. Shopping is really good there too, although not very cheap. As for eating out there are loads of lovely restaurants and cafe bars in the Las Ramblas area. We did end up in Pizza Express one night as well when we were there. I'm too old for clubs so can't advise on that score sorry!

La Fonda is a lovely restaurant. It looks very up market but is inexpensive. It's in a road near the bottom end of Placa Real.

Another restaurant we loved at the other end of the spectrum is a cheap and cherful restaurant called Petra right near the church of Santa Maria Del Mar, just off Calle Argenteria. Gorgeous food and lovely staff.

If you like modern art there's Fundacio Joan Miro, up on Montjuic. It has a fountain (actually a waterfall) of mercury. Outstanding! Also don't miss the dancing fountain at Magic Fountain. It's not on every night so do check before you go.

If you like Gaudi, La Pedrera and Casa Batllo are very interesting if pricey. Gaudi's Parc Guell is free to enter and if you go on a clear day you'll have spectacular views actos Barcelona to the sea.

The Sagrada Familia is an immense cathedral still under construction, and begun by Gaudi early last century. If you can stand the entrance fee and climbing spiral stairs you can see for miles.

The aquarium is quite good but if you've been to the National Marine aquarium at Plymouth or teh Deep Sea Centre at North Queensferry (near Edinburgh) you wo't be overawed.

Don't know if they are on at this time of year, but if you get the chance try to visit the Magical Fountains at Monjuic. The fountains 'dance' to a wonderful light and music display. The finale was Freddie Mercury singing 'Barcelona' and it made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end... a truly wonderful end to the evening.

If you are into art there's also the Picasso Museum. Barcelona is a beautiful city. I don't think that you will be dissapointed.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions.

We're getting very excited now and have some great ideas about where to go and what to do.

The Magical Fountains sound amazing. Also we're definately going to visit the Sagrada Familia and the two mentioned restaurants.

Thanks again everyone :D

I agree with Diane, the fountains at night are breathtaking.
