we are planning on having a 2 night/3 day break at DLP whilst we are on our canvas holiday in France next year. We plan to go around 11th september, and looking at the brochures for next year there is nothing on, the lion king is not running at that time, wishes finishes end of august, fantalussion finishes end of august, its too early for halloween or anything else! I was really hoping we would be able to catch the fireworks this time, because last time we went it was beginning of October and they had just finished so missed them.

Oh well i guess it will just have to be as it is, and look forward to WDW the following year

We went last weekend as we were in Paris for a long weekend. What a let down , very dissapointing.
They certainly know how to take the gloss of the day from the very start......50mins to get a ticket, all the excitement of getting off the train fizzled out at the first hurdle. From there on, it was a park that had too many atractions closed off for renovation and too many rides that had massive q's 90 mins for indiana jones, 50mins Space mountain, 45mins Pirates, 50mins thundermountain, 50mins Haunted mansion, and no fast passes. The steamboat was closed, Autopia closed, other areas were boarded up for renovation and guests were herded down narrow passages to get from one land to another, what a let down
We used fastpass to great effect in WDW in August, but why not in DLP?, they seemed to have the fast pass machine, yet none operating . The cast members were nice enough, but the paying guests, well the Europeans are not like the people in Florida.
We wont be rushing back, at times in the park we felt as if we were not even in a Disney Park, there were few characters to be seen...very very dissapointing indeed. They one thing they did well was the Halloween theming, but that was it.
Prefer to save for Florida anyday, this European park was a huge let down and a disgrace to Disney, anybody else visit weekedn of 15th, 16th OCT experience similar?

sorry to hear about your visit, we went last year and had a pleasant enough day, although as you said it saeems to be the time of year to close everything for refurbishment, we also found a lot of shops and restaurants closed too. I really wouldn't be too fussed if we didn't go next year, but i think the kids will enjoy it and it will be a change form the caravan park and fishing for a couple of nights!!!, also as much as it's a let down i don't think i could be an hour away from any disney park and not visit!!!

Contrary to everyone else's experience we visited between 20-24 Sep and had a fab time. Yes, some restaurants were closed and a bit of Discoveryland was closed off to allow Buzz Lightyear to be built but we got to see new Hallowe'en decorations appear every day (and they get into this in a big way), the parades at both parks were fantastic and there are other great shows to see - I prefered both Tarzan and Animagique to Lion King and you didn't have to do the queueing for tickets thing to see them.We went midweek and the queues wer vitually non-existent. I'd definitely recommend a september visit. We were even lucky with the weather.

I've been in Jan two yeasrs running, it's not WDW but it's ok.

I vowed I wouldnt go again because of the crazy charges and stupid eating rules.

But if mum keeps asking, I will be a good son.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

See diary for more.

What charges and rules.

You've got me panicking now as we are going in January.

Well I have never had a bad trip to DLRP and am going back on Wednesday for 4 days. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience Moonchester. At the end of the day it is not WDW and we try not to make comparisons. As most of our Disney trips have been in school hols we expect fairly lengthy lines for rides and don't find that a problem. Weekends do tend to be busy at DLP, but I can't understand why the fastpass system wasn't running...strange!

Yes, the Fastpass issue was the mosts annoying of all.
Perhaps I was unfair to compare to WDW, however when we visited a couple of years after it opened in Novemeber we were singing its praises and saying it was better than WDW, that again after being in Florida a few months prior.
One more annoying thing is the way that guests continue to smoke anywhere they like, in WDW they have special smoke zones, that again just takes the gloss and quality off the park.
The 'road' that connects Fantasyland to Dicoveryland is also pathetic, surely there could have been a better more intetresting merging of the two lands. At this point I think we had already decided this park was having a bad day anyway!
The Pirates is much better though, as are most of the attractions we got on, but its just the atmposphere we were dissapointed with.

One more thing, we found the food excellent !..with reasonable prices!

I agree with the smoking thing..there is nothing worse than people puffing away all over the place! Designated areas would be a massive improvement (if stopping it all together isn't an option!)

It was a huge barn type place in frontierland, we had Ribs and Chicken smotherd in BBQ sauce with potato wedges, it was very filling and very tasty.
We also had Waffles from one of the counters in the long malls that run parrallel with main street, served by an english guy too so I think he gave us loads of fresh cream and sauce....
