just wondering if there are any plans to build more theme parks at Disney. I know they have an awful lot of spare development land left, or do you think we will just see more resort hotels/DVC resorts from now on??

I've heard Sea World are building a park but nothing about Disney expanding.

a cm told us this year that disney have enough land to build 2 more parks. but when he did not know.:D
On the K2K tour recently the guide commented that they had nearly as much land left to build on as they had used!!!
They may build again - depends on the demand but they have plenty of scope to do so if required.
I would imagine if they feel the other Orlando parks are adding on and taking too much business, they will go fot it!!

There was a rumour of a 5th park based on the darker side of Disney ie the Villians and baddies.
I think itwas called the badlands or something

SeaWorld have just received planning permission to build a new Water Park on the other side of I-Drive.

Just back, looking at the amount of villa and townhouse/timeshare development going on, they will have to build more parks to match the accomodation capacity.
I had heard the crowd levels in October were low, on some of the days we were at the parks the crowd levels were higher than we had experienced before in March/April, May/June and June/July.
Georgemac,
Unfortunately most of the new development and building is down to the surge in people wanting to buy villas in the area and developers jumping on the bandwagon rather than any great surge in visitor numbers, so although the accommodation capacity is there there is still a long way to go to fill the beds and get Disney's tills ringing enough for another park.

Sue F, we stayed at Westridge and quite a lot of the villas had for sale signs outside. We spoke to some people who were staying somewhere else on the US27 and they said the same.
Perhaps these owners are hoping to sell and buy new properties?

We were told by a taxi driver in Sept that Disney are building a thrill ride park to compete with IOA. He said he had seen workmen going into the site at night.

There is construction work going on at Disney for a new road and there appeared to be a new resort, conference centre or somesuch going up on the road east of the All Star Resorts. It had a "hotel lot entrance" feel to the part joining the main road.
For the time being the tourism market is still pretty depressed - Disney haven't even finished building Pop Century and (as noted by others) some aspects of the parks are looking a little under-loved.
I think it is much more likely in the foreseeable future that flexible changes will happen (like more special evening events, Cinderellabration-type new shows, etc) that require a lot less capital and can appear and disappear at lower cost. And we are going to see an awful lot more pins etc.

A conversion of River Country, perhaps? That would be interesting.

Whatever happened to River Country? Did it become another pool for Wilderness Lodge?

no
it got infested with blue algae and that made swimming in the lake prohibited!!
You can still see it (or could when we last stayed at WL) from the little Mouse boats that you can take out

I really think they need to look into doing something involving just the Disney Villians. They are just as popular as the "goodies". I also think they should look into a ride of sorts for Monsters Inc. That part in the film where they are chasing Boo's door would make a fab ride! Just a thought!:p:
