firstly decide your budget, do you want value, moderate or deluxe. The deluxes and moderates aren't really all that close to any of the parks, whereas you can stay in deluxes which are, eg. you have the Yacht and beach club, boardwalk, and swan and dolpin near to MGM and Epcot, and you can walk or get a boat to both parks, or you have the MK resorts, Grand Floridian and Polynesian are both on the monorail and Wilderness lodge is a boat ride away. It can also depend on the size of your party. Some of the deluxes and Port orleans riverside have room that will sleep 5, but the rest only sleep. Have you considered doing a split stay between 2 resorts?

I agree that you need to decide what your budget is first and then this will make your choices easier. What i would say is that if you are going to stay on site your experience will be superb whatever hotel you choose, however i agree that there is a big differnce between a value and luxury hotel. We have usually chosen a value hotel so that we have more to spend on the rest of the holiday. The transport at all of the sites is superb so you dont have to stay right next to the parks.:cool2: :cool2: :cool2:

my personal preference is a moderate - a bit more upmarket feeling than a value but still reasonably priced. The deluxe prices vary quite dramatically as well, Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge are usually pretty reasonably and then it goes on up with Grand Floridian being the most expensive.
If money were no object then I would stay at the Boardwalk for the superb atmosphere, theming and location near 2 parks.

Have a look here (http://allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm) for info and photos of all the resorts.
If budget is not your first concern, then just pick the one which appeals to you most. The WDW resorts are grouped into 3 broad categories according to the facilities on offer and price. They all have their own theme, some might appeal to you more than others depending on the ages of people in your party and personal taste.
We have stayed at POFQ and AKL so far and both were superb, but very different resorts.

Deluxe resorts have the quickest access to any of the parks.

Boardwalk area with the Boardwalk Resort, Yacht Club and Beach Club give you quick access to Epcot and Disney Studios. You can walk or boat to either with Beach Club being the closest to Epcot and Boardwalk being the closest to Disney Studios.

The resorts on the monorail (Grand Floridian, Contemporary and Polynesian) give the quickest access to the Magic Kingdom and they are also close to the Transportation and Ticket Center where the monorail has an 8 minute ride to Epcot and all the busses to every Disney destination can be accessed.

Our of the 3 monorail resorts the Polynesian is unique that you can either take the monorail directly to the Magic Kingdom or you can take a motor launch (small boat) from the resort or a larger ferry from the TTC that is right next to the Polynesian resort. It is also the only resort on the monorail that you can get on the monorail to Epcot without having to take the other monorail around to than transfer to the Epcot monorail. It has taken me 17 minutes to get from my room at the Polynesian to the middle of Epcot and even less time to get to the Magic Kingdom. No other WDW resort can claim such quick access to the two parks. An option that I enjoy is to bus over to Disney Studios and spend the early part of the day. Than take the boat from Disney Studios to Epcot for the rest of the day and return on the monorail. If staying at the Polynesian you get off at the TTC and walk to the resort. If staying at the other two monorail resorts you have to transfer to the resort monorail to get to the other resorts.

I hope this was helpful.

Aloha
