View Full Version : Restaurants and food choices..best meals
I would love to have your views on which restaurants to try and which meals to choose from them.
I know we all have favorite places to eat in but the menu choices are so great I always end up wishing I'd have what someone else has ordered:blush:
What are peoples favourite meals at which restaurants:tounge:
I would like to try lobster this time.
It would be great to have a list of really tasty starters, mains and desserts.

I too like lobster and crab, but have only ever eaten in Red Lobster. I would be interested to hear about people's views on the other "lobster shack"-type restaurants.

I like meat dishes, ribs steak etc so also will watch this thread to see what suggestions/tips come up :)
We have always been fans of Red Lobster but were let down by poor service and cold food on our recent trip. We tried Joe's Crab Shack (there are a few around) and the atmosphere was good if noisy, we did not like the food much but perhaps we made bad choices.
Our consistent favourites are Jungle Jims - every burger imaginable (and in veggie options too), Tony Roma's for fantastic ribs. Rainforest Cafe (at DTD) and new for us this trip but excellent steak/ribs/fajitas etc Chili's.

Mythos at ioa- best park food
Olive Garden - Bread sticks are yummy
Longhorn - Great stakes and although we tried several times we couldnt finish the chocolate stampede! ( even though we had one between four!!!)

Hi my faves are usually all starters
at Tchoup Tchoup the dumplings are great
CRT the crab cakes are delicious, closely followed by the mussells and shrimp
Kona Cafe the sticky wings are delicous
Mythos the chocolate sampler is to die for
Yachtsman the scallops, jack daniels mousse cake delicious
for a decent buffet Park Fayre and Crystal Palace have a great selection for dinner and lets not forget Boma, Knew I shouldn't have started our food seems so bland after holidays:cry:

Best Breakfast - Boma at AKL - Everything was fantastic from the range and selection of food to the fantastic customer service.
Best Laugh - Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge near MK - Don't expect a quiet dinner but its an absolute scream, especially if you are willing to get into it.
Best Buffet By Miles- Hollywood and Vine - best choice of everything.
Honourable mentions for Rainforest Cafe at DTD which we loved and Hard Rock at Universal for a burger.
Best cheapskate dinner - I-Hop at LBV.
Biggest disappointments - Poderosa, Bob Evans and Planet Hollywood. Ponderosa is hyped up like crazy by loads of people, it IS cheap, but I just didn't like it. Bob Evans had a rediculously long wait for a breakfast that was cheap but COLD :erm: and Planet Hollywood just isn't worth the waiting, the hassle, and the money. It was a big disappointment this year after it being our favourite last time we were there. Why they've moved away from films is beyond me? If I want to be deafened by a VJ playing Rock Music I'd rather go to the Hard Rock.
Bahama Breeze - roasted cuban bread for starter, bahamian grilled beef kabobs (Caribbean for kebab!!) for main and Rebecca`s key lime pie for desert. Best key lime pie I`ve ever tasted!! The Cheesecake Factory at The Mall At Millenia does fabulous food and has a massive choice of cheesecakes. If you don`t want to eat there, you can choose some cheesecake and take it away with you. The steak diane is gorgeous and try a peach smoothie which is made with fresh peaches and raspberries. Nectar in a glass!!

Best Meal ever in Orlando in our many visits has to be the Rainforest Cafe at DTD. Had combination of Chicken, Shrimp and Rib with lattice fries, Onion rings, Blackbean rice and salad....the portions were huge and every part of the meal was perfect!
Other favs of ours are:
Hard Rock
China Jade (excellent chinese BUFFET)
TGI
We have yet to eat at many of the places mentioned but aim to try a few of them when we go in December. I want to try:
Race Rock
Beaches and Cream
Tony Romas
Sweet Tomatoes (DW is a veggie)
I would say BIGGEST dissapointment of any place we have tried would be PLANET HOLLYWOOD......food was average at best and the staff left a lot to be desired...due to there being queues or should I say "lines..." outside they just seem to rush you through your meal and show you the door as quick as possible which is great for those waiting outside but not what I would call good service...!

Last visited October 2004
Although we were all looking forward to this holiday we did actually (can't believe I am saying this!) all have burger overload and were fed up with them by the end of the holiday.
We are going back October 2006 and I have made an effort to do a bit of homework in the restaurant area to ensure we get a good mix with some fresh veg thrown in for good measure. (Just don't tell DS 1 & 2!) :d:
DH is not really a "dress for dinner" kind of guy so we usually pass the posh places by, but I have discovered (with some great tips from the DIBB) that there are alternatives that are good for your health and your pocket. :thumbs-up
Anyway back to last year:
Best breakfast - Character breakfast @ Ohana's in the Polynesian resort. Great service, lovely view and fantastic food.
Best steak - Uno Chicago Grill on I Drive. The first night of our holiday and the best steak ever. Also fantastic Shrimp Scampi.:spin:
Best ribs - Rainforest Cafe @ Animal Kingdom. Mojo Bones are fantastic.
Best Takeaway - Chilis on I Drive. Meatball subs are to die for. :D
Best Burger - Mels Diner @ US. Great Chili Fries too! :thumb:
Also thumbs up for:
Earl of Sandwich @ Downtown Disney - Tuna Melt mmmmmmmmm
Chilis to eat in - only fresh veg of the holiday and great ckicken and shrimp!
Ponderosa - a big thumbs up from the kids. What kid wouldn't like a bowl of every dessert on the counter! :o:
TGI Fridays - much better than at home

For seafood Red Lobster is good, there are usually some vouchers in the local tourist booklets.
Best burgers; Beaches and Cream
Best Buffet; Texas de Brazil, although not stricklly a buffet, it is great, they come around with skewers of meat and offer them to you at the table as well as having a good buffet. (http://www.texasdebrazil.com/index2.php regiester withon 2 weeks of going and they send you an e mail voucher).
Best Character meal; Liberty Tree Tavern in MK
Best Breakfast; Dennys near Sheraton Studio Hotel or Chef Mickeys

I like Perkins for a cheaper casual meal - prices along the lines of ponderosa but much nicer.
We discovered cracker barrell last year and we really like that too - in fact we went back a few times cause we liked it so much.
for a lot of chains I thnk it really depends which branch you go to, we went to a Dennys on i-drive a few years ago and it was terrible, but last year we went to one on the 192 (near sherbeth road) and it was really nice - again not fancy food, but a great budget meal.
for posh meals, we really enjoyed Jiko but it was pricey, and I also love the Tappenyakiin Epcot.

Cracker Barrell - We went for breakfast and I can't remember exactly what we had but you got loads of everything, one breakfast could have fed 2 or more easily.
when we went for dinner I think I got the chicken fried steak which is hard to explain, it's like a hamburger but breaded like fried chicken with a white gravy. It's a pretty traditional southern dish, and something I used to love as a kid so I was pleased to be able to have it again. The whole menu is traditional 'like mum makes' kind of food (only not like *your* mum makes, unless your mum is a southern belle!)
