Can anyone tell me how far Old Key West is from Downtown Disney.

We are taking our teenagers in the February half term and whilst they love Disney Quest, we are not that fussed. Is it possible for them to walk from OKW or would we be better off staying at SSR.

We've chosen OKW for the bigger rooms. But want to give the kids a bit of freedom (or should that us a bit of freedom from the kids) ;)

Thanks for the input
Pete.

I think walking is out of the question - it really isn't that close. I'm sure that SSR would be a better bet. I'm going to do some research - may get back to you.

Right - here is a bit of what DVC has to say about SSR

"The newest Disney Vacation Club Resort is within walking distance or just a short boat ride away from the entertainment, shops and dining of the Downtown Disney® area. "

We have stayed for a week at OKW and, whilst we liked the resort very much, we did feel a bit "cut off" and needed the car for everything. Travelling by Disney bus is so tedious and long-winded.

Hope that helps.

theres a dedicated boat service from OKW to DTD that only stops at Saratogo then DTD, there is a walkway from saratago but its still a bit of walk in heat, once at DTD dock u just get the boat to westside it drops u off at the HOB directly opp DQ:smile:

Thanks Jan... that was quick.

We'll have a car, but I quite liked the idea of letting the kids off the leash. so like you say SSR may be the better bet.

Cheers Pete.

I don't think its safe to walk along any of the roads round WDW. Its too far between parks and resorts although they look near on the maps, its also far too busy most of the time and would be a bit like walking along a motorway here in the uk, it would be much easier for them to get the bus, Disney buses run frequently to and from DTD and it really wouldn't matter where you stayed to take advantage of them. :wavey:

There is a pathway to DTD - it's round the back of building 55 (I think it's that one but they can tell you at check in) It goes along the side of the canal but closes after dark. You can also use the boat which stops at SSR as well or they could take a bus.

If I remember rightly (and I think I do but someone will correct me if I don't) we got a boat from OKW to DTD and it was a lovely little ride through the backwaters.

I remember a lovely young man who was so chatty to my granddaughter and we tried to tip him but he said he wasn't allowed.

I've just checked a travel website and it says there is boat transportation to DTD - this should be ideal for them. :)

There is a pathway that takes you past the golf course. It's a nice enough walk, but it took us about half an hour! Your youngsters would probably be a bit quicker ;)

We really enjoyed the boat ride. It was nice to stop off for a snifter and a bite to eat at Saratoga Springs on the way home too.
