View Full Version : Server hit by an army of search engines
Hi Guys,
It looks like we are getting too good at optimising our sites for the search engines.
at 1am this morning we were hit by an army of search engines trying to index our site. 677 of them all online at the same time :(
This had the effect of closing the server for normal access, so if you couldn't get on first thing this morning that was why.
Thank goodness for that Stu:grin:
I logged on first thing - there was no homepage, no updates apparent since midnight, tried a search, told I must wait 15 seconds between searches and to wait another274578964738 seconds before searching again and when I tried a post - it elevated it up over the Thread starter!!!:confused2

I'm glad you sorted it out Stu, ever the clever one!! Though I was going mad this morning.

Still telling me that I was last here at 1am on the 1st Jan 1970?
...Forum front page still saying Most users ever online was 677, 1 Jan 70 at 01:00 AM.
:D
one of petalsoftlys postes said she posted it at 1 jan 70!!
I have reset users online,
took me a while to trace it in the database

Hi Sharon
Go into the Forum where you want to start the thread and at the top left is a Blue Button that says New Thread. Hit that and away you go. Once you've finished just hit Sumbit.

I think it's playing up again - just saw some posts out of sync and dated

yes I'm trying to isolate the offending search engine spider, I have had to put a total block on Yahoo at the moment
