Just wondering if anyone has stayed here (with or without kids) and do they think it is ok for 2 adults and 2 kids (5 and 10) as thats where we're thinking of staying when we go back.#
Thanks Lee

Hi Lee,

I've read quite a few poor reviews of this place (and not just on Trip Advisor, which you have to take with a pinch of salt). I know the location is good for you (being on the north side of Sand Lake Rd) but if I were you I'd try and find somewhere else.

Unless, of course, if someone has stayed there recently and found it OK.

No its still a 1 star motel and in dire need of updating . The only good thing is the location is not to bad and if you are on a budget its fine to lay your head down, but dont expect the Hilton.

I've stayed at the Rodeway in the past, but it was a good 2-3 years ago so it could have gone downhill since then, but when i stayed there it was fine. Clean, no frills budget accomodation. For location it is great, right in the middle of I Drive, close to local public transport options, loads of restuarants within walking distance. For up to date hotel reviews, check out the TA website. If you don't fancy the Rodeway, then i can recommend the Comfort Inn International (not to be confused with the Comfort Inn Universal!), it's on the corner of Sandlake and I Drive so also very central, and it's a good three star hotel, very clean, friendly staff, free continental breakfast, small pool. I stayed there in Sept and i wouldn't hesitate to go back!

The Clarion Universal is quite nice too, if you want to be at that end of I-drive - it's not on i-drive, it's on universal blvd so a bit quieter.

Its like any other "motel" accomodation on IDrive, they vary from year to year as you may get a room that has just been refurbed or one that needs refurbed.

All these "motels" are pretty much identical inside (also the same as Disney all stars) so you could be lucky and get a pristine room or one that the previous occupants have turned into a slum no matter where you go.

We stayed at the Rodeway last September. It was ok for us as we were literally just going back to the hotel to sleep and it was clean enough. If
your funds can run to it, i would go for a better hotel as it is badly in need of decorating and updating

We stayed there in 2003 and 2005 and have booked for this year too. If you want a cheap hotel in a good location then go for it. I would not hesitate to go back again, and did not see any drop in standards from 2003 to 2005.

We have stayed at the Ramada Inn Lakefront used to be Wellesley Inn and Mic Lakefront. Stayed there for the last 4 years and always been happy there. All rooms have view over wet & wild lake and is on opposite side of the road to Rodeway Inn. We only sleep in the hotel - up and out early and back just in time to go to bed but it's always been enough for what we want. All rooms have a fridge, microwave and safe.

We stayed in the Best Western Movieland in October and it is very close to the Rodeway. We weren't expecting much as we'd read a few bad reports, but also some great ones, on Trip Adviser. So we were pleasanty surprised at how clean and spacious our rooms were. And at the end of the day it's really just somewhere to sleep. Personally I prefer the other end of International Drive.

Save your money and stay in the Rodeway. It is a typical 3 star. Nice UK type pub frequented by brits. Japanese restaurant onsite has good food and cooked in front of you (entertaining in it's own). Corridors on inside which is better for security. I have stayed there a couple of times and it is good value. Nice size , plain rooms with fridge and microwave. Stayed in Holiday Inn resort next door last year, but went into the Rodeway for the Japanese early bird. Impressed by the lobby which had been done up , new carpet etc.

I have to agree with fredflintstone. I think The Rodeway is great and great value, its clean and has never let me down other budgets have (like MIC). I also have paid 4x the money for far worse hotels all over Europe (bow your head in shame London!). Clean, friendly, cheap, good location, nice bar.

Have stayed at the Rodeway 3 times in 3 years (all adults in the group). Its cheap, its clean, its in an excellent location and each time we were lucky enough to get rooms up in the tower with amazing views out over Universal/IoA. There are certainly more expensive motels about that might have a slightly fresher lick of paint, but at the end of the day you sleep there then spend the money you saved on the room at the parks, or on rum runners at CityWalk, depending on your age!

Would recommend it.

As I am staying at the Rodeway Inn in Feb. I am pleased that there are some good reviews on here. We booked this hotel with virgin and I was at first worried by some of the reviews on trip advisor. But reading some, I will take them with a pinch of salt like some of you say. Giving them a 1 because they didn't supply shampoo and conditioner in your room is rather finnicky!! Had a look on their own website and the rooms look as reasonable as some 4* hotels I have stayed in in Florida. At the end of the day I will only be sleeping in it in the evening.

And with the money you save, pamper yourself and have breakfast next door in the Holiday Inn resort ($8 adult , $3 child (seemed to have lost the free)).
Includes coffee, tea ,chocolate milk etc etc and very good cold/hot buffet and that includes being able to order ala carte for omlettes etc. Orange juice not now included (Has gone down hill over the years. No free kids, orange juice extra, no chef cooking omlettes in front of you, no univeral characters breakies, but still a very good breakfast. Beats the rodeway , ponderosas of this world and the drinks being included makes it less of a price gap.
