View Full Version : Breakfast with young children?

We're staying at Pop Century in May and our dd will be 4 and ds 14 months.

Must admit i am a bit worried what we're going to do about breakfast every day. DS will obvisouly want feeding pretty soon after waking so it's not as if we can all get ready and then go out somewhere for breakfast and having it in the food court at Pop every day will get a bit expensive (and the menu doesn't look THAT appetising).

What does everyone else do for breakfast if staying in Resort?

We take cereal with us for the kids and buy muffins for DH & I. There is usually a fridge where we stay so that makes it easier for milk etc, but one idea I saw was to buy a cheap Styrofoam cooler (we saw them in Wal-mart and places like Walgreen's) and fill it with ice from the ice machines. You could buy a carton of milk from the food court and keep it cold overnight.

Instead of buying a styrofoam container, we just filled the sink with ice from the ice-machine each night to store milk for the morning,(sometimes they have an ice-bucket in the room) then we brought cheerios for dd and bagels for us.

It worked out fine.

we tended to have breakfasts in the room. I had cereals and milk in for the kids, and then would nip to the food court for coffee's and danish's for us. If we were having a relaxing morning and not heading to the parks for opening we would maybe have breakfast in the food court, but i would still give the kid there cereals as soon as they woke up then they would just pick at our breakfasts.

We were in a moderate resort so we had a fridge in our room so we could stock up on milk and drinks from the supermarket. You can hire a fridge at the values for $10 a day which can be quite expensive over a 14 night holiday but might be worth it is you are stocking up at the supermarkets with drinks etc. If not i would just fill the sink with ice and buy some milk from the food court on the evening for breakfasts the following morning.

the smae styro foam cooler box, was around $5 from the supermarket fill with ice and we bought in cereals (watch what you buy as some although named the same have loads more sugar in and "tastes different" apparently), we also bought fruit, crackers, cheese, cookies .... snacky sorts of things so breakfast was covered and also a snack for nearer bedtime ... cookies and milk kind of thing.

surprising how much time as well as $$$ it saved on busy park days

How often do you have to change the ice to keep the milk nice and cold?? I'd be worried about it getting too warm and going off

We brought small cartons of milk and just changed the ice daily-to be honest the milk didn't last that long with the amount dd drank and then used on cereal etc.

could you perhaps take your own? that's what we did and also bought rice krispies while we were there. We found walgreens stocked a good selection of cereal but they don't stock weetabix.

You can get Weetabix at Publix and Goodings. We took some from home for DS on days when we ate breakfast in our room, but he soon developed a taste for American style cereals.

You can actually buy a compact fridge for less than Disney charge for 2 weeks rental.

Thanks for all you replies, filling a styrofoam cooler with ice is a great idea and would be ideal as both kids will want milk in the morning and can also have cereal with it.

Do the supermarkets do these?

I presume it's now fine to take weetabix/baby cereals into the US now? (wasn't when we went in '04)

Thanks
