My husband and I are having 1 night away in Leeds without the kids. We are stopping at the Village Hotel just outside of Leeds. We will be leaving after we drop the kids off at school on a Thursday and will arrive at Leeds at about 11 a.m. Where should we head for and park in the city centre so we will be near the shops etc as we cant book into our hotel until 3?.
We are also thinking about getting a taxi into the centre on the Thursday night and have been reading about places such as The Headrow, Park Row and Light. Where should we get the taxi driver to drop us off so we can have something to eat and drink which is quite lively on a Thursday night.? Any other useful info on Leeds or the Village Hotel Leeds appreciated. :D

Hi have you thought about leaving your car at the hotel when you arrive and catching the bus to leeds city centre very regular from the entrance to the village catch the bus to leeds city centre quite expensive to park in the mulit storey carparks . If you do take the car plenty of car parks that are sign posted st johns car park easy one to get to quite central. As for the evening I dont go into leeds drinking but a great place apparently is the birdcage pub/nightclub good night transvestites in there serving . as i said not been but work mates go and they have a great time they are in there 40s and married They are not that way inclined it is such a great night.the light is a relativly new building with a few shops bars and eateriesplus a cinema chinese in there is lovely. hope this is of some help enjoy :wavey:

Depends what you like to do, but I'd recommend eating at Casa Mia Millennium which is just at the south end of Millennium square. It's usually quite bustling without being too noisy.

Other than that you could just walk about and see what you like the look of. If you like Indian, you could try either of the Akhbar's - one on Greek Street and one on Eastgate (Egyptian themed!). The Wardrobe bar just across from the bus station behind the Playhouse is also worth a look, but is a bit of a trek from the Headrow area. They have live music several nights a week.

There's also a Hard Rock Cafe on the west side of the Light.

Parking (and indeed driving) in the city centre is a nightmare for the uninitiated. I'd get a bus or taxi. You're just a little bit further out of Leeds than Studentland so buses and taxis are plentiful.

If you want somewhere a bit special- try Bibi's.
It's like a film set.

It used to be on Greek St, but moved a while ago -

Bibis Criterion
Criterion Place
Off Sovereign Street
Leeds LS1 4AG
tel: 0113 243 7273

It's not far from the Station.

The toilet doors are a sight to behold!!!

I agree Bibi's is fantastic and busy during the week as well. Quite pricey though, probably around £40 per head for 3 courses. There are loads of lovely restaurants in the Light as well. If you fancy a bit of a show then there is a Jongleurs in Leeds which is really good, you may need to book tickets in advance which you can do on their website. I agree parking is very expensive in Leeds, more than £1 an hour, and a cab from the Village will probably be about £6 so you might be better off hopping on a bus. Hope this helps!

If you like curries akbars is a great place to eat too situated in greek street but like someone else recommended bibis is nice too..I wouldnt advise driving into town the one way system is a total nightmare. As for nightclubs you could try jumpin jacs that is in city square so quite central. My friend is a member of the village health club he loves it there, also it has a pool so take your swim stuff.I am sure it has a website i remember looking on it when checking out gyms it looks nice. Enjoy.Another point if you want an inexpensive all you can eat affair wokmania in city square has excellent reviews, spicemania is adjacent that too is good place to eat.

We are back and had a good time. Parked the car in the hotel and got the bus into the centre no problem. It was freezing, did a bit shopping then had a couple of drinks in the light area and a bar meal. Tried to get a taxi for about 30mins with no luck so decided to get the bus back to the hotel. Ive never seen so many buses in a town centre blue line, purple line etc all stopping at different bus stops. Finally found the No 1 on the brown line that we needed but it was going in the wrong direction so we had another hike to the next bus stop. With it being so cold I think we would have stopped in the hotel all night but the pub was being refurbished so we just ate at an italian in headingly.
Thanks for all your advice.

Was it the Flying Pizza you ate at in Headingley?

Haven't been there for years! Did you like it? It used to be incredibly popular.

It wa OK, it was recommended by someone we were sitting in the Spa with. It was very busy with a constant flow of people in and out. There was a poor selection of alcohol, wine or bottled beers only - not to my taste, I had a coke and a lemonade.
