Has anyone stayed at the Ocean Pointe Suites in Key Largo. I was browsing the web and came across trip advisor. The reports on this resort didn't sound very good at all. It looks good in the Virgin brochure but the reviews said the place was awful. We DH, DD 12 and DS 11 have booked a week with Virgin at this resort in April after spending 2 hectic weeks in Orlando. This is our first time to Florida and our dream holiday. This part of the holiday was supposed to be a relaxing and extravagant end to a fantastic holiday.
I'm now worried:confused2
I'm not sure if we should try and change our booking. I would be most grateful for any advice or others experience of the place.
Thanks
Taggie

I haven't any clue about what the place is like where you are staying, but I wouldn't just go by what you have read on Trip Advisor
Have you tried looking for other reviews from other places to compare?
Hope it turns out okay for you :thumbs-up

Like just mentioned it could be worth looking for other reviews but I would not ignore Trip Advisor. The people who have actually been to an hotel are better at commenting on it than someone who hasn't.
In many cases its about standards. If your standards are high you may be disappointed. If not then you may be delighted:smile:
One thing you will notice on Trip Advisor is that some places go through phases where they get good reports and then they change to not so good. Could be just a change of manager or it could be a company change and what sounded good in a brochure 6 months ago can rapidly go down the pan

Tripadvisor is not the most reliable source of information, if you believed all the reviews on there you would never go anywhere. We have stayed in places with dreadful Tripadvisor reviews and found them wonderful. Make sure the reviews you take note of are recent ones.
If this (http://www.opsuites.com/index.php) is the place, it looks lovely, so go and make up your own mind.

There are lots of hotels with consistantly good reports on Trip Advisor. How does that happen I wonder? Perhaps they are just good hotels.
The borderline ones will always get mixed reviews.

Thanks for all the replies it is reassuring. I will try and check out some more reviews other than trip advisor and like you say I think we will still go and make up our own minds when there. Thanks again.

I find that a lot of the Americans & Canadians who post reviews on trip advisor are extremely picky, a tiny inconvenience can make them give a bad rating. I had a look at the website and it does look lovely, I'm sure it will be.
I always refer to Trip Advisor. I agree that some of the reviews on hotels I have stayed in puzzle me a lot eg: The All Stars
However you know when you have a series of consistently good reviews you are on to a winner. Look for other sites with reviews as well and ask questions on forums to help your planning.

When we went to Vegas we stayed at the Luxor and I looked on Trip Advisor. Some people slagged it off rotten and some said it was lovely. We were a bit worried before we went and when we got there it was AMAZING! It makes you wonder if people just like to moan.

I've used TripAdvisor a few times as a guide but found the reviews very misleading. I suspect quite a few are written by would-be hotel critics or those who expect perfection for pennies. Best bet is to take the average and hope. As the US is very customer service focused, any hotel truly as bad as some of the reviews suggest would soon go bust.
