On our last trip we went to Cocoa beach which was really lovely, but the part we chose did not have much else to do other than sit on the beach. I've been having a look at this website today, hope it helps you as well

We're St Pete's beach fans, first went in 2002.

In 2004 we tried Cocoa beach, nice beach too, though I thought a little rundown looking, but the weather was glorious so we still had a great day, also doesn't take as long to drive too either than on the Golf Coast.

Also in 2004, we tried Clearwater, but it was sooooooooo busy and parking was a nightmare, we ended up not seeing the beach at all and drove south down the coast coming across lots of "public" beaches with parking facilities etc and ended up down at Treasure Island. Nice clean beach, cafe also and toilets (though they were abit grotty!).

Then after frazzling on the beach, went further southwards to St Pete's for dinner.

Personally, I prefer the Gold Coast;)

We did Cocoa beach in 2005 and found it a geat day out, the sun was shining, the water was warm and there is a pier at one ond of the beach for refreshments. We also went to Daytona but was not very impressed.

Hope this helps

Best beach for sand, that is, is Clearwater Beach but we really like the feel of St Pete's Beach and the surrounding area. We have also been to Naples but found the beach to be a bit grubby. On our next visit, we plan to try somewhere around Sarasota.

Another vote for Clearwater. Go out on the Seascreamer - the biggest speedboat - dolphin watching!! www.seascreamer.com

Hi
another vote for clearwater and yes the seascreamer is excellent, going again in march. We took our camera on with us, you will know when to take a picture!!!!!, When you slow down!! We took many pictures and had a great time, they even let you drive the boat and at speed. Highly recommend it.

Absolutely take a camera/video!! At the end of the session the boat goes fast and they advise you to put things away then as you get wet with the spray! Just remember, even if it isnt a very hot day, you still get very sun burned out at sea so put loads of cream on!!

Daytona is huge - the beach is great, you can park your car on it. But the hotels look a bit run down - and the whole area could do with a bit of a refurb, in all honesty.

We're going back to the Gulf/Gold Coast this year - either Clearwater or St Petes. Maybe travel further down to Sarasota too. Any ideas?

We are staying in Clearwater for the majority of our holiday staying in the Clewarwater Beach Resort (the old Ramada Gulfview) but we are going to have a couple of days staying in Sarasota, looking at staying at either the Helmsley Sandcastle or the Holiday Inn Lido. Both Sarasota hotels look nice but we think we are going for the Holiday Inn as it seems to be nearer to St Armands Circle where it looks like most of the restaurants and pubs are.
