Anyone combined an Orlando trip with a week on the Bahamas (probably Nassau)? I've the seed of an idea to do this in October/November 2007. Its only a quick flight from Orlando and prices for this October are showing for less than £100 pp.

Anyone?

Thanks

Just my own opinion of course but having been to the Bahamas I wouldn't ever think of going back. Its ok but there are much much better places to go.

My first ever trip was a week in the Orlando ( which I thought would be just ok ) and a week in Nassau ( which I thought would be a paradise )

Nassau IMHO was a dump, rude locals, rude hotel staff, you get charged extra for tips (15%) and then they stand there scowling at you if you don't add some more.

The Raddisson Cable Beech supposedly 5 star hotel was falling apart at the seams and water poring through the cielings.

Trust me Nassau is no Paradise, and I didn't think it was particularly safe either.

Oh I need to add some more, we booked extra for all inclusive, which ended up being an orange juice and a salad
with every meal, the main courses had to be paid for.

Have you thought about going to Grand Cayman which is part of the Cayman Islands? It lies 480 miles south of Miami and is safe etc. You can get flights there from Tampa and Miami with Cayman Airways and American Airlines and can also fly there from Orlando MCO during the summer months.

Ouch I didn't mean to ruin anyones holidays, the place just wasn't for me and ended up a comedy or errors I guess.

I had been to Orlando for the first time and was amazed at how fantastic it was ( I only went initially to suprize my buddy with DC ).

By the time we headed to Bahamas it was thanksgiving weekend, miami airport was crazy, we nearly lost our seat on the flight over.

The hotel we stayed at was horrible in every way ( and hyper expensive ) and everyone seemed angry all the time.

The one good day was our visit to Atlantis ( though we had to pay just to have a look at it ), the aquarium was worth it though and we bumped in to Celine Dions husband.

One tip if your a bloke on holiday with another bloke wether it just be your mate or your partner people are not nice to you, they seem to really dislike same sex couples over there. First minute we got there they met us at the airport holding an envelope with Mr & Mrs on it, when I told her we were actually two individual blokes she said O I See and looked disgusted, first night in the restaurant we put suit and tie on ( thinking thats what you did in the Bahamas, the live singer at the restaurant stopped half way through a song and announced "look its elton John and his lover!" and everyone in there laughed at us. For the rest of the evening we had to listen to gay joke routines.

I hated the place after two days and wanted to go home, I was so looking forward to visiting this apparant paradise more than the Orlando bit, I am a tuff bloke emotionally (Funeral director ) but the place drove me to tears.

Well no wonder you had a horrible time with attitudes like that and thank you for the feedback even if its negative.

I'm glad you did like Atlantis though as if we stay there I was going to shoot for the moon and try and get a week in one of the timeshare resorts (including the Harborside at Atlantis) on Paradise Island. I think I'll broaden my search however and also add resorts in the Florida Keys and go to whichever one comes up.

Kitty, Atlantis is amazing, just like a huge Vegas hotel but even better, apart from that though there isn't really anything else worth looking at, half a day in the old town i guess then thats it.

The Keys however look awsome, classy, relaxed and lots of different things to see.

One more thing at the Cable Beech I asked a lady if there were any sharks, she laughed at me and said no don't be silly man, they are miles out to sea,

I gets in to the water with my little goggles on and has a snorkle, pretty little fish all over the place, then what do I see, three white tipped reef sharks happily minding there own business swimming under me, I am sure one looked at me, I just slowly made my way to shore.

Turned out just 300 yards from the hotel you can pay to go down a tunnel and watch the sharks:omg:

Now after the event it was something of a once in a lifetime experience, but then It was only luck they wern't hungry.

I combined a holiday to Orlando and the Bahamas and I loved it sadly I wish I had spent longer in orlando as one week was so tiring but worth it all the same. We stayed in the Atlantis for a week and it was amazing but enough time, as I didnt find there was much else to do infact as 3 young girls on our own we didnt feel very safe leaving the hotel very often not that we needed to, everything we needed was there. I'd go back tomorrow given a chance :)

Whatever you decide enjoy it.

In 2000 we went to Orlando and the Bahamas, we stayed in the Atlantis hotel on paradise island, we had a lovely time, it was pretty busy and really hot, we went out on jet skis and stuff it was great. The only bad thing was the prices there were very high. You will have a great time especially considering it is free!!

I spent my 40th birthday at The Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island and loved every minute of it. It was just myself and my then 10 year old. We went in early December. Very quiet (i do hear that hotel can get very packed in high season though). My daughter had the Lazy River to herself. They upgraded us because of my birthday. The temps were in the 80's.
I really did love it there.
Plan on returning for my 45th birthday!!!! but may sneak in another visit this coming December!!!

We did a week in Orlando and a Week at the Radisson Cable Beach Resort.

Only problem we had was a strike/go slow by the hotel staff in a dispute over pay.Otherwise i thought the radisson was excellent and i thought Nassau had some excellent shops etc as well and never felt threatened at all. Have subsequently been to Barbados and thought Nassau was much better and much safer.

The beach is beautiful and never crowded, the sea is as warm as a bath and is very calm, and it is roped off for safety as well. We were room only at the Radisson so could pick and choose whether to eat there or go to the Marriott next door, Jonny Canoes along the street at the Nassau beach Club or further along the street at Hard Rock Club/restaurant.

If i could afford to go back i'd go back tomorrow.
