I would like to go away for a few days in the summer. Ideally a cottage or chalet situation in Scotland or North/Mid England. I am assuming that going at beginning of Scottish school holidays will be cheaper.
I have looked at CentreParcs and was quoted £479 for a 4 night midweek stay. Is this a good price?
Another option was Alton Towers as DD is a coaster freak but the Alton Towers hotels are definitely a no no!!!! Does anyone know of anywhere nice to stay nearby?
Any other ideas most welcome.

If you want something with a bit of character, why not rent a National Trust cottage?
Not sure about prices but they've got them all over England & Wales.
If you look on The National Trust Website there should be a link to their holiday Cottages area & they should be able to send you a brouchure.

Try the Scottish Youth Hostels Association for cheap and interesting places to stay that are well suited to families. They even have castles! Many of their properties are near to main tourist attractions and areas of natural beauty.
