We have decided to drive to the beach for a day, which is the best beach within driving distance. We just fancy a chill out day with some good restaraunts.

Probably the closest and easiest to reach are St Petes or Clearwater about an hour and a half to 2 hours drive away on the Gulf Coast or Cocoa Beach about the same distance on the East Coast.

Hi
we prefer clearwater to coco beach, I think there is more to do at clearwater, yes it is alittle bit further, but well worth it.

if distance isnt a problem, anna maria island has some lovely beachs
The Gulf Coast beaches are far nicer than the Atlantic side. We always go to the beach for the day when we are in Orlando and St. Pete`s is our favourite. We spend part of the day at the beach and then go to St. Pete`s pier where my husband and sons fish and I have a wander around the pier shops. Check out www.stpete-pier.com

Another vote for Anna Maria Island - we love that place. Have a look at it on Google Earth - miles of stunning beaches and lots of great restaurants.

I found that getting to Cocoa Beach is much easier and closer to Orlando. My kids love the body boarding and surf. You can hire a real surf board for the day for around $15. If you park near Ron Jons surf shop the parking is good and there are bars and restaurants close by- also showers and toilets.
