As I’ve written about the Derby often in my other reports, I’ll just tell you that Paul had his usual Thai noodle bowl which he loved, and deftly devoured with his chopsticks as always.
I think he’s had it seven times now and still looks forward to ordering it on every trip.
I had the Strip Steak marinated in dark ale with Three Sauces and Boniato/Red Skinned Mashed Potatoes.
Though I certainly enjoyed mine, my steak dish was a bit drier than the last time I had it. The steak didn’t taste like it had been marinated in dark ale at all. Also, I found for the first time ever that I needed to add some extra butter and seasoning to my mash. I’m being a bit picky here and only mention it as it’s so unusual for me to have to season anything at the Brown Derby.
I had a couple of glasses of Carneros Happiest Celebration Chardonnay and Paul had some of his new fave wine find - Gary Farrell Pinot Noir.
We finished our meal with some Double Vanilla Crème Brulee, which came with the most delicious cinnamon-y Gingersnap Stick. There were so many vanilla seeds running through the creamy custard that it was speckled from top to bottom. It was fantastic – if you love fresh vanilla, as we do!
An enjoyable lunch for sure, but not our best visit to the Brown Derby. It was extremely busy and we felt rather rushed. Perhaps this was because of Prime Time Café being closed due to refurbishment.
Having had so many outstanding meals here previously, our standard mark is high and we feel it has a lot to live up to in our eyes. We’ll be back!
