My boyfriend (just doesn't sound right at the age of 33 !!!) has declared that he won't go on any rides that involve darkness.
By this he means that he doesn't want to be on anything where he can't see a little of where he's going.
Could anyone help by telling me which ones to avoid?
Or more to the point - which ones will I have to go on by myself? :spin:
PS - We're planning all the Disney Parks, Universal and Busch Gardens.

I'd just not tell him which rides are dark - just let him go on and see if he likes it :D

Space mountain is quite dark and so is the rock 'n' roller coaster. Tower of terror is also dark when it gets to the part where you are dropped down 'umpteen stories'!!!! Hold on to your hats and have a great time.
PS all these attractions are at disney parks

Can't think of any that are in pitch darkness but many do have dark parts. From memory:
Space mountain is pretty dark.
Stitch may well be - its predecessor was.
Pirates has a bit in the darkness.
Rock n Rollercoaster is dark with neon signs.
Tower of terror is pretty dark with sudden flashes of the whole park beneath you!
Dinosaur is dark with strobe lighting and teeth. (Horrid ride - don't take him on this)
Mummy is pretty dark
Atlantis is dark in parts

Don't tell him go on them all:pgig: :pgig:
Whats so nasty about Dinosaur?
I can see its not one to take our 5 & 8 yo on (dino mad) - and hope I get the chance! I heard there is a bit where a T Rex is about to get you - then the ride has a big drop. Is that what it is - or more?

This one is Jurassic Park at Universal Studios. Dinosaur is at Animal Kingdom. It's a bit bumpy (:erm: ) and there's a bit of a shock at the end but it's not too bad!! ***Rubs back***

A bit bumpy??? We were stuck on this for 5 minutes or so with the car not moving foward, but still bumping around all over the place. And it was in one of the completly pitch black sections. Its a good job we have a sense of humour.

Mmm Dinosaur ?? According to my DH i went on this ride, i do not remember ever doing so, it must have been so traumatic that i have completely blocked it from my mind.:omg: I don't do the rides, i go on Splash Mountain if pushed to do so, i have been on Thunder Mountain Railway once and swore not to do it again, i do not do rollercoasters or fast rides :( [ i cried my eyes out on Test track ] I am pretty sure i would only go on Dinosaur if i was completely blotto, as it's Disney that would take some doing, plus we have kids with us so i drink only back in the digs.:beer2: I am sure i never went on but as said, DH and even grandson say i did, so that's how scary it can be for some people [ like me ] Traumatised for ever :omg:

Space mountian is mostly dark, so is Rock and Roller coaster. Stich is dark, but you do not move in that at all, you just sit still.
At univerisal the Mummy is quite dark.

Dinosaur is a "story" ride where your nice scenic car ride gets hijacked by scientists travelling back in time to rescue a dinosaur before the Big Bang or something. Another one of those - "Oh No! The ride has gone wrong!" rides. It's mainly on one level but very bumpy. A great deal of it involves strobe lighting which really accentuates the dinosaur menace as you can't really tell what's going on until you can see teeth at close quarters.
For me this ride combines the three things I loathe - things with teeth (don't ask - I don't know why  ), things jumping out and strobe lighting which makes me feel very sick.
The ride you are thinking about is teh Jurassic Park ride at IOA. This is quite OK - nothing comes too close and apart from one bit where you think a raptor might drop on you there are no surprises. Apart from the drop, of course! The T Rex is more thrilling than scary bcause you get a good look at it as you approach it.

I think Dinosaur is a love it or hate it ride! We all love it - even, or should that be ESPECIALLY my 5 year old DD! - but if you don't like 'surprises' then it's probably not for you! Jurassic Park is the only ride that freaked out my DD - the drop was just a bit too much for her - and she loves Splash Mountain. I felt a real bad mother for taking her on it when I saw how upset she was afterwards. It wasn't the dinosaurs that frightened her but the length of the drop! I must admit it was a bit too much for me too! :erm:

I didn't like the drop on Jurassic Park either! I remember clutching DD to me while she was crying and shouting "don't look, don't look" at her as the dinosaur in the crate hung abover our heads!:omg: This was our second trip to Florida but 1st time at Universal! I'd spent months and months reseaching Disney but it hadn't occured to me to check out many of the rides in Universal!:confused2 So we came across Jurassic Park, there was no queue, and we just climbed on thinking it was a boat ride! Oh dear!:omg:
