Sorry if this is a really stupid question but as a newbie to florida I am a bit confused by this.
I read you have a shopping allowance of £145 but how is this checked.
I am not trying to find a way of duping the system but how do they know when you have gone over the limit?

Like I said sorry if its a stupid question.......:confused2

I think customs have an idea people will overspend on items when going
to wdw, don't think there that bothered probably do it themselves. I think
they would only bother if you were trying to sneak in overly expensive items
like tv's for e.g. I have never been stopped once and I always have quite
alot of extra hand luggage. ;)

If you are stopped at customs they may question you and ask for recipts for item which are or look new.
If the don't stop you ... then they can't check.
All the times we have come back we have spent a bit over the allowance, but never had a problem; but its a risk you take, if you go over you may have to pay tax and import duty.

If you have spent over the £145 amount you should go through the Red channel when you get back. If you go through the Green and are stopped the onus is on you and not customs to prove that the items were not bought in the US.

I know this may sound dumb, but is the allowance each or per family. Just there are 5 of us and if that is each then we can do some serious shopping. LOL

We spent way way over our allowance last year. We cut of shop tags from clothes and binned receipts at the villa. Who is to say you didnt bring them over with you. All the disney merchandise was a bit obvious but we took the chance.

Incidently when we went through they picked out people who looked as though they had food in their cases. We passed an African lady who looked as though she had half a cow in her case (yuk).

We didnt even get a second glance.

As already stated the onus is on you to prove where you purchased them not Customs.

The Dibb rules state - we do not promote "cheating the system". This thread is now being closed.
