A couple of years ago my DW bought me a birthday present, it was a flight in an American Harvard from Kissimmee airfield.
We walk out to the aircraft and get strapped in to the parachute, the guy says "do the straps up tight", I made sure these were well tight, I remember a friend of mine who was an ex paratrooper telling me they were instructed to do the straps up as tight as you can possibly stand it, if you don't and you jump out and the chute deploys you can end up with a very high voice indeed
What a wonderful experience, as soon as the plane leaves the runway and the wheels are up the controls are given to me. We fly over towards the park area where the PIC takes control again and demonstrates a few "wing overs" the control is the passed back to me and he says "now you have a go" Wow, better than any of your rides, I didn't realise how heavy the controls on these old aircraft are, it took nearly all my effort to pull back on the stick coming out the bottom of the loop!
After about half an hour he gives me a heading back to Kissimmee. He says "can you see the runway?" I confirm I could as we were flying parallel with it, he says "Now gentle bank to the left for a short final" the flaps and gear are lowered, by this time I'm just about lined up for finals when the PIC takes over and lands the aircraft. If you are in the area of the War Birds museum, have a go, its great fun!
