When we were buying our DVC membership one of the things we discussed with our guide was the annual dues. She told us that we'd have to pay a half year's dues in January 2003 and a full years dues in each January thereafter.
Not so, apparently. We've just had a letter informing us that we have to pay 184 days worth in August, so I'm assuming that we'll be having to pay a full years in January 2003.
Is it correct that it has to be paid in advance rather than arrears, which is the impression we were given? Not much we can do about it but it's still a bit annoying. .
Hi Carole,
We are just buying into DVC and had been told we would have to pay a proportion of the annual dues this year and then the full amount in January next year. Sounds like you did not get given the right information.

Cheers for that Karen. I guess our guide was having an off day.
Yes, dues are paid in advance, not arrears. If your dues aren't paid up in full by the appropriate date you can be refused accommodation! .
Were you still dealing with Linda Streetman as your guide? If so, I'm surprised that she got this wrong, as I know she gave us the correct info about dues, both when we joined and when we added on recently. I suppose everyone is allowed an 'off' day now and again, but some 'off' days have more impact than others! I don't think I would have been too pleased to receive a bill like that unexpectedly. <img src="http://www.thedibb.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/non-cgi/emoticons/sneaky2.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sneaky'>
Hope the DVC magic returns for you soon.

Oh, we're still feeling pretty magical about it all. Takes more than that to discourage us. Plus we've just been drooling over the latest BCV pics on Deb Wills site. And yes, it was Linda, who was very nice to deal with so she's forgiven .
To be honest, we were expecting bad news number three, and if that was it, I think we got off lightly compared to the other two, Stephen being diagnosed with diabetes and a £1600 bill for a new boiler .
