Hi! DH is an avid fisherman and I was wondering if anyone had fished on Disney Property as we will be staying onsite in October. Any info would be useful. Or has anyone fished anywhere else in Orlando?

Not in Orlando but as a family we went to Clearwater and did the fishing trip. We all enjoyed it but I was my usual self and was sea sick on a calm sea!

I'm an avid fisherman here in Orlando and there are TONS of great fishing spots. I could write on and on but I'll try not to dither. I'll just post a few here but you can email me or message me and I can ring you for more detailed info......I fish froma 17 ' flats boat. Most of my suggestions will involve getting a guide but if you dont want a guide I can direct you to some land spots as well. I dont know of any boat rentals specifically for fishing (rigged out with bait etc).

First and foremost the flats on both coasts are excellent fishing grounds. You'll need to find a captian that specifically states "flats fishing" as it very different than deep sea or open water. The flats on the east coast are mainly brackish water (salt and fresh mixed). Depending on the month your coming will determine the salinity of the water and therefore determine what you'll catch. Orlando is much closer to the east coast and as I live on the far east side of Orlando that is where I'm partial too.

My favorite flats to fish is Mosquito Lagoon (rough directions- take 528 beachline or HWY 50 east until you see water). If you search it on the internet you'll find alot of maps, guides etc to help you out. The main fish you'll go for in the flats is the red drum AKA the Red Fish, but also sea trout, snook, and of course a huge amount of "junk" fish (many species that are not good for eating just throwing back). The reds are great fun to catch, but again go with a guide or captain so you dont break any keeper or size laws, they are tight on laws. I put in at Eddy creek and literally fish in the shadow of the Kennedy Space center. There are places at Eddy creek to fish from land as well.

My favorite fresh water site is Lake Conway. This will be a little more difficult for you to fish as there are not as many captains or guides doing fresh water. If you look for a fresh water captain they'll each have their own favorite lakes to fish, and its best to go where they are familiar with as they can put you fight on the fish. Bass and Blue Gill are the main fresh water fish and Bass by far the best to catch (and eat).

Last but not least VISIT BASS PRO SHOP on Internation drive. Its the greatest place on earth for a fisherman.

Let me know if I can give you more details....

Jason, Thanks for the info I will print it off and show it to DH. Unfortunately he has discovered the joys of Bass Pro and could happily spend all day there!
