View Full Version : Whats your scariest ride????
On my way back from Animal Kingdom today and trying to recap what I thought of as being my scariest ride to date.......
Ive done all the main Disney / US rides - and there are some nice rides for sure, but none that have given me a bigger fear factor than "The Big One" In Blackpool! It wasnt the big drop or height that "did me in" on this ride, but the angle the car returns at (which isnt horizontal even though its a straight run.) I remember doing the UKs main rival at the time and just opened at Alton Towers - Nemesis - and thinking it was a bore!
Must admit, I dont do "spinners" well and bottle straight drops like terror towers.
Of the rides done this trip....
Dueling dragons
Hulk
Spiderman
Mummy
Dinosaur
Everest
test track
space mountain
rock'n'rollercoaster
(Im sure there are a few more....)
Im suprised the ride that had the biggest impact was mission to space.
I know you are static. There is no genuine G Force, but I swear the skin on my face was rippleing with the force of the launch! How do they do it? But I was sitting there at that point and thinking "oh ol - Ive done a wrong'un here". It wasnt "scary" just plain uncomfortable.
Probably of the rides listed above, Dragons and Hulk were my favs. Just wished other members of the family would ride them with me. My 8 YO tried to do Hulk (much to my suprise) but not tall enough. He was ok on rock'n'rollercoaster - which I personally found to be far worse than the aforementioned.

The chair lift at Blizzard Beach...I was nearly crying. Much more scary than any of the coasters..don't know why? I'm not really scared of heights..chair lifts just don't feel safe to me! I will NEVER go on it again...or watch the children go on it.

.
I think they pressurise the cabin.....that is what my DH told me.....
He has had a lot of ear trouble and had to stop scuba diving because of pressure to his ear.....after that ride he was in agony for hours.

guv, I hate to tell you but the G Force on Mission Space is simulated (very well) by spinning! It is one of my all time favourites, brilliant ride.
My scariest has to be Tower of Terror, I am terrified of heights and rode this for the first time in the front row, boy was I scared when those doors opened at the top :omg:
A close second is the ride I like to call Evil Wirl, the spinning thing at Animal Kingdom, very, very unpleasant and not likely to be repeated ever again. (needs vomiting smiley here)
I hate any of the simulated rides and wasnt keen on Mission Space either . I havent done Hulk but have done Kraken (not keen). The one that scares so many -ToT is my all time favourite!

you sound like jezzerinos, I thought I would try and take a pic off him on the ride but had to move well away cos looking and it and feeling it whoosh past was to much for me. Ill stick to the teacups!!!

Eh? Thats a bit of a contradiction?
I did say "There is no genuine G Force" - and think the pressure is likely. Certainly didnt think it span.

Mission space is a centrifuge it spins to get the Gs 2.3 I believe
glorified Gravity wheel :) the simulation is the way the spinning is used :)

The flight there. :nonono:
I'll go on everything I think apart from Mission Space.. I just can't bring myself to go on it. Seeing planets etc will overwhelm me til the verge I will pass out and/or puke. (I know it's not real) but Disney are very good at making it feel real!

I'd say Kraken & closely followed by Misson Space (although I'd go on both again). I love TOT.

Me too!. Its the only time I've been genuinely frightened at WDW. I was so sure one of the children were going to slip out under the rail. I don't care how many times we have to climb the steps to the family raft ride we are NEVER going on that chair lift again!

Have not yet ridden Mission Space as it was not finished last time we went to Florida. I love all of the rides in all of the Florida Parks. The only ride that really scares me is Oblivion at Alton Towers, the bit where you stop looking straight down is nasty; there is the same thing now at Busch Gardens, so that would probably be my worst ride there now.

In mission space each "cabin" rotates slightly to one side (so all cabins are facing around a circle) then the whole lot spins very quickly in the direction you are facing. They can simulate all the bumpiness by varying the spin speed and by facing you slightly left, right, up, down.
It *does* generate g-force. Think James Bond, Moonraker and you have the idea.

They actually spin the whole thing round very very fast to create the necessary G force to make it real! Thats why people have ear problems on it because they basically get very dizzy

It's got to be the 360 film in canada. This is the only film I've had to walk out on feeling really sick. In fact any of the 360 films do this to both of us.
Personally I can't do wooden roller coasters or 'spinning teacups' uck!
The first drop on Kraken however - woooah ! and as for Shiekra ...... 3 rides in the first row on the trot - fab ! (Just don't look at the stantions from the the 'smokehouse' on a windy day! - it's a bit disconcerting we way they sway!)

I am so glad I am not the only one. I went on last year and nearly went into a full blown panic attack half way up, I hate heights and to be honest it didn't seem that high up from the ground. I don't know what it was but I was scared witless. :d:

Thank goodness i'm not the only one who was scared whitless at the Alien Encounter in MK, I really did need a change of clothes after that, I was white for hours, I was even 22 at the time!!! I'm so pleased it's not there anymore!!

Yeh, I went and had another go on it today. I hadnt noticed the intro screens on the way in before where they show how its done! (doh!)
What I did notice today however, was looking to one side during the launch just gives the sensaton of spinning and made me feel quite nausious. Looking dead ahead with my head on the back of the seat IS the way to do it.
The guy who had to press the first button on launch was unable to do so beacause of the G force....like the previous time as well.
ive now been "Engineer and Navigator" - which are seats at opposing ends of the capsule.

I didn't think any of the park rides were particularly scary, but I did wimp out of the Typhoon Lagoon ones - but that has more to do with me not being a very strong swimmer. I don't like being deposited into deep water at the end of the 'chute.
But one ride that DID scare me was AIR at Alton Towers. Because you are suspended under the ride you are completely dependant on the harness and it didn't feel safe enough for me.

I'm in a Sunshine State of mind.

The Chair Lift At Blizzard Beach gets our vote, especially when yours trying to keep 2 excited girls sitting in the seat!
Mission Space etc easy- but I'll tell you what made me freak was Armageddon in DLP,! I had no idea what it would be like and the kids screamed their heads off. When the water hits your face and they scream fuel line has been cut OMG I thought I was going to die. Bloody stupid thing. the kids were truamatised though

DD9 screamed the whole way through this! It absolutely terrified her! She also cried the whole way through Jaws! This is the same child who rides MS, TOT, RnRC, Space Mountain, BTM etc, time and time again with 'no-hands', screaming "faster, faster" at the top of her lungs and can't wait to do Dueling Dragons and The Hulk this year! Strange how some things effect them and some don't!
