What's it like for eating out? Whats the prices? Is the food tasty? Is there a lot of selection? Are there 'posh' and 'not so posh' restaurants:tounge:
What's the food like for eating in? Are the supermarkets ok?:tounge:
I know that it's very naughty of me to stereotype people but I've got an image of very big burgers and lots of pizza. Which is fine as i like both but a bit of variation never goes amiss.
Can anyone give me some good hints/tips?:D

You can get anything you want serious amount of choice
The food is lovely, nice and fresh, plenty of variety, and cheap, some restaurants are posh but plenty are just ordinary everyday family restaurants. Meals start from about $5 upwards, always look in the brochures for money off vouchers. Eating out is cheaper than in the UK. The supermarkets are fantastic, you are spoilt for choice. Enjoy your holiday
It is the world home of the deep fat fryer. But you can avoid that as much (or as little!) as you want to - there is incredible choice.
Relative to the UK, the food is pretty cheap.

If you think of most things you could ever want to eat (excepting mans best friends and those types of food), you'll be able to get it somewhere in Orlando.
Prices are usually the same, or less, in dollars as they would be in pounds here.
Quality is usually on par or better than here (with a few exceptions just like here). Portions are bigger and all you can eats are everywhere and very good value.
If you are getting a hire car it's really easy to have a drive out and find 5/10/15 places to eat within five minutes so you'll have plenty of choices.
Carl :)
Echo the sentiments of the above, huge choice and excellent value for money. Definitely lots of burgers - but all of them much better quality then you get here. Our standing joke is that you pretty much find Steak, Shrimp (we would call them prawns), Chicken and Ribs on every menu - oh and CHEESE (with everything!):omg:

Go to the golden coral, spend about $50 for a meal for five, eat as much as you like, and you will never have to eat again for the next 13 days:D

Steak - like you've never seen before
Shrimps - I would call them huge prawns!!
Hot dogs - that you actually have to chew, they are not plasticy soft things
Burgers - made with meat
Cheese - what kind would you like?
KFC is better than the KFC here - try the mashed potato and gravy!
Sweet Tomatoes - if you fancy a break from the above!
You will be spoilt for choice
Oh, and dont forget to try the Jambalaya at NBA at Universal's City Walk ;)

....including Breakfast Cereal and Waffles. :erm: :omg:
Yeah can't argue with any of what's been said already - there are loads of reviews and comments on all of the places to eat on here if you search for them. Not posh are the crap ones like Bob Evans, Shoney's, Wendy's, Golden Corral, Ponderosa and the not so crap but still cheap i-Hop.
Obviously theres also the Pizza Hut's, Burger Kings and McDonalds which is much the same as over here.
And then you've got some fantastic places to eat right throughout the Disney resort - most of them aren't posh and meals in them are probably just a bit cheaper than a UK meal - but the food is fantastic and the selection absolutely superb. My favourites are Boma, Whispering Canyon Cafe, and ESPN - Hollywood and Vine is is also highly recommended.
Most disappointing for me were the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood.
Everyone's tastes and expectations differ but take time to read up on the threads about the best five resteraunts and read the reviews and make your own mind up. Remember also its not always just about the food either, theming, atmosphere, and occassion can make the holiday for you. Just don't make the same mistake that we made on our first trip and assume that resort restaurants are just for guests - they aren't and many of them are absolutely fantastic.
Oh and lastly, yeah burgers are the American food of choice, as are steaks in Orlando. I have to say though - perhaps its cause I don't look for it over there - but pizza';s certainly don't seem to be as popular.

What amazes me is that the waiters/waitresses can take an order of drinks and meals from a party of seven, with some additions or omissions from the meals e.g. the type of cheese/ no relish etc, not write a thing down and have everything brought out exactly as it was ordered!!

 Yes totally agree with that never once had a meal brought out wrong.
We found that if something on the menu took your fancy, but there was something on it you didn't like they would always make sure it was taken off.
Such as cheese or sauce etc, never had any problems, even asking for half a portion of something, as some of the portions were enough to feed an army!!! and they would only charge you half the price.
The service In Orlando restaurants is generally very good indeed, as the waitresses.waiters rely heavily on your generous tip to make a good wage. Its also worth remembering that American portions vary from Big to Huge!!
We have eaten in Tgi Fridays and for four adults the Bill was $78+tip which included desserts, and several rounds of delicious cocktails:tounge: Thats about £12 each.
At the other end we have eaten at Ronnies(now Salt Island) and for the same four people with only one round of drinks and one dessert the bill came to over $300, To be honest the standard was not that much different between the two.
The list of good family restaurants is endless, Our personal favourite is the Olive Garden( Italian) but we also like Chillies for mexican and Tony Roma's for big Steak or Ribs.
The choice really is endless.:(

I always come back feeling really annoyed about how rubbish (and expensive) the food is in the UK.
Ignoring the 'stuff your face' places (which are great for breakfast, and if you've got fussy eater kids) the low/medium price restaurants really are in a different league to anything here. The Olive Garden that Alvin mentioned is 'just' a chain restaurant, yet its quality and value is simply outstanding. The one on 192 even has a nice ambience.
