As is usual on the first morning in Florida, we were up really early and starving hungry. Now that’s an especially good thing if you are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge as they start serving breakfast in BOMA at 7.30 and the delicious aromas from the wood burning ovens lure you downstairs, where a first-class feast awaits!
It was still dark outside and we were amongst the few early-birds to be seated in the almost empty restaurant. (It soon filled up though, and was absolutely heaving by the time we left, so make those ressies if you want to be sure of a table)
Our delightful server Chaidan explained the set up to us then went off to get our drinks.
Paul had fresh orange juice and I had the famous Frunch which is a mixture of lemonade with pineapple, orange, papaya and guava juice.
I liked it, but the lemonade watered it down a bit too much for my taste.
Paul also had some hot chocolate and I had a large press-pot of Kenyan coffee. It was $4.50 extra, but worth it to me as it was much stronger than the bland American coffee.
There was so much choice we weren’t sure where to start.
Of course there are all the traditional American breakfast items. Cereals, fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, pastries, waffles, pancakes, bagels and cream cheese, muffins ….

There were some African offerings like sausage casserole with a biscuit (scone) topping and Bobotie an African mince dish topped with savoury custard and baked till golden. They looked tasty but it was too early in the day for me to experiment.
I went off in search for some simpler meaty treats and Paul made for the omelette station.
A cabinet of individually labelled goodies invites you to select the ingredients you’d like in your omelette and it’s then cooked in front of you. Paul chose mushrooms, peppers and cheese with his.
The breakfast potatoes here are very similar to the Potatoes with Afritude served in the evening – like spicy wedges with onions and peppers. We love them!

Meanwhile I was filling my plate with some meaty morsels.
I loved the delicious cured pork loin. It had been rubbed with thyme, cinnamon and ginger, then roasted. I found it especially tasty when spiced up with a dollop of my favourite fiery Masai Mara chilli sambal.
(Not to everyone’s taste first thing in the morning, I concede – but I love spicy food for breakfast)
I also had some bacon and a very tasty sausage, made from chicken with apples, apparently. Sounds a bit weird, but it was delicious dipped into the spicy honey mustard sauce.
We sampled the lightest muffins, sweet sticky pastries and loads of perfectly-ripe fresh, tropical fruit.
We waddled out of there after about an hour, not having sampled even half the items available, but extremely happy with everything that we had tried.
Sorry I didn’t take pics of all that we ate – but we were hungry!
We’ll return for breakfast at BOMA, for this is easily the most excellent breakfast buffet we’ve ever had.
