Please can anyone tell me if they sell PF20 sun cream in Florida. As I have been told that this is the besct cream and you only put it on once a day and it is the best cream.

I'm sure they do sell it but we always get ours from the airport before we fly out - they sell it in abundance! Its not actually a cream but a clear liquid which you put on 30-45 minutes before you go out in the sun. Be careful with clothing as it can stain. It's very good and although factor 20 seems low my children didn't burn at all.

I know I'm such a party pooper about this P20 but do you know it doesn't provide UVA protection? I do worry about people using on their kids thinking that they are fully protecting them. That's why they tell you you can still "tan " when you use it Although it's the UVB which causes the obvious sunburn UVA is still implicated in skin cancers and premature aging. Sorry if I'm sounding a bit funny but it's just something that worries me...everyone has their "thing" and kids and sun protection must be mine (sadly I don't practice what I preach to the kids and burn my neck without fail every year as soon as the sun comes out here!)

I'm another party pooper where P20's concerned. If you ask me it's c***! It stains your clothes and you have to put it on an hour and a half before you go out!!!!:nonono:

I always use Piz Buin Once a Day range as you put it on 15 mins before you go out, it's completely waterproof and it lasts for up to 6 hours. They also have a wider range of factors! It's not available in the US though so buy before you go!:thumbs-up

Thanks for the info I am glad that you told me about PF20 it is not a product I have never used someone told me about it at work. I do not want to use if it does not protect you from getting skin cancer. As I already lost my father to cancer not skin cancer though.

Which one do you recommend as I tend to burn very easy????

I'd go with Piz Buin. The highest factor they do is 30 which is good enough for me and I too burn easily. :thumbs-up
Alternatively, Boots Soltan have just brought out a similar all day cream which lasts 10 hours, goes up to SPF50 and covers you for up to 40 mins in the pool (not long enough for me!).

We always buy our suncream when we get there as you can get the higher factors easily.

P20 has moderate uva protection and my dermatologist says she uses it and thinks it is good but she just wouldn't sunbathe at noon in it.But i have bought piz buin too to try that says uva and uvb but does not specify how much protection from each so there is no telling if it is any better or worse imho.

Phew! Thanks Carys, I was worried there that I'd done some damage :( Again this was recommended to me through a friend and in all honesty it's worked for me and my family. They obviously wouldn't take their shirts off in the scorching heat and always wear hats so I'm not silly and as I already mentioned, I'm aware of the staining. My 'kids' are actually in their teens and have NEVER burned.

I'm sure P20 has it's place and it will give some protection against cancer if it helps prevent burning. I just worry that when it's used on kids they aren't getting quite as much protection as their parents think they are giving them.

I'm quite fair and always used a factor 30 in Florida and not burned...it's here I always slip up as I don't think we're ever expecting it to be sunny LOL

if they wouldnt sunbathe with it at noon then why use it at all, this does not give you total protection and woulddefinetly not use it with children or myself. post on up says about Parasol and i have been using it, we used it for the last couple of years, put it on my DD9 last year in Fuerteventura where the Temp was 35 degres without any problems, can be a bit difficult from what i have heard to get it in some places but you can order it on line, its a once a day but we tend to put it on again in the afternoon, and i think it goes up to spf50

I personally think it's all relative to the individual, be it a child or an adult. As I mentioned my 3 children have never burned and all of their skins are different - one only has to look at the sun and she's dark, the other has a medium skintone and the third is fair. That also adds to the 'burning' factor not just the SPF I choose to use on them. I have a nephew who even if he wears factor 50 will still burn; he has to be covered all of the time and would not dream of taking his t-shirt off, even in the pool!

Dont use it on the kids.I bought it once and my little girl burnt. Dont know whether it was an allergic reaction or if it was just a rubbish lotion. For children i would recommend Soltan (boots) and a 60 factor.

last year my youngest son had just suffered with Kawasaki disease just 5weeks prior to our departure and had to wear a high factor lotion to protect all his new skin (the skin on his hands, feet and chest had peeled and flaked and new skin was revealed underneath).
We used Boots Soltan factor 60 on him, he didnt burn and even went a very slight golden colour (is as pale as anything bless him).
I used the Boots Soltan factor 30 (green spray) for my eldest son, he didnt burn either and he also went a golden colour (he has a darker skin than the other one).
We used the Soltan factor 15 (first week)and the went to ambre solaire factor 8 (for the second) we both have dark skin and went a nice golden colour with out burning.
This year I have bought the Boots Soltan factor 30 (green spray) again for both the boys (youngest doesnt have to be so cautious this year as no new skin)
The soltan is good and we gfound the spray really easy to carry about and apply during the day (although it says it lasts for XX hours we took it everywhere and reapplied regularly lol)

The thing about P20 for me, is that it has no moisturising properties. It's just a clear lotion, and while it does offer quite good protection (providing you follow the instructions carefully) I found that my skin became very dry- this is because there is no UVA protection.

Boots Soltan range have just brought out a new long lasting sun cream (6 hours protection with 45 mins in the water) and it is available in various SPF's. It is quite a thick cream but it does protect and moisturise, it has UVB and full 5 star UVA protection. It was on offer at 2 for the price of 1 just recently, I don't know if it still is but I would definitely get some more as we have just used it in Lanzarote and it was great.

I don't think a dermatologist will sunbathe at noon full stop or even at all. Can only tell you what she told me and as i am recieving UVA treatment and being blasted with it twice a week i am hoping she knows what she is talking about. There are pros and cons for each of them.

To be honest I'm not sure about the once a day suncreams, i prefer to use a regular one and re-apply regularly. Last year i used soltan SPF 50 for the kids and they didn't burn once and turned a slight golden colour. Dh and I used the ambre solaire clear protect spray in SPF 30 the 20. This stuff is amazing, it's like a oil which dries without any grease. DH loved it because he has a lot of hairs and struggles rubbing in normal lotion. We generally apllied before going out in the morning, around lunchtime, and then agin in the afternoon before going in the pool.
