View Full Version : Extra Magic Hours - 2 questions...

1. The Disney website is slightly ambiguous - when it gives the park hours and then states its an EMH day, are these extra hours in the times given or in addition to ? Some days the hours suggest the park is open til midnight, yet also has EMH - surely it wouldn't be open beyond then ?
2. The various websites and guides that advise on busy and light days for crowds, yet the busy days usually coincide with EMH days... what's best - avoid or go ?
as ever, all help much appreciated... :thumbs-up

Whenever ive used the EMH, say the park is open till 12.00 in the evening, then EMH is extra, so if its 2 hours the park will stay open till 2.00 in the morning.(sometimes they give you a wristband so you can ride the rides, but thats only happened once to me)
If the park states 9.00 opening in the morning and EMH is an hour it will open at 8.00
Sometimes I avoid EMH, especially if its star wars weekend and EMH , the crowds are awful, and being EMH everybody gravitates to that park. I think its trial and error really, I tend to hit another park on EMH.Unless theres a ride I specifically want to do bad, it is amazing how many onsite guests still dont know about EMH despite all the advertising.

Last time we went, they only had AM magic hour, which after our first attempt ( we didn't get there early enough & it was heaving ) we avoided those parks with am emh at all costs. This time we are aiming to do the 'quiet' parks on the busy day chart, hopping over to the PM emh park if we feel the need, and then only in the evening, these parks may be busier in the daytime as some American tickets don't allow park hopping.

Evening EMHs are GREAT! You can have a lovely sleep in in the morning  , followed by lunch in resort without having to head to the park until the afternoon. Last time, we went to MK EMH, and the wait for rides was non-existent. It meant that we could enjoy the park without going on the rides, when the park was still open, and then enjoy the rides when most people had gone back to their hotel.

Hi
Have to agree, use the EMH's !!!!
Yes parks are busy but not that bad. If extra magic hour is in morning, get up, be there for rope drop. (still not as busy as it would be on a normal morning when anyone can get in) Get to your fav rides and fast pass while riding. For example, you can get all 3 the Mountains out the way in MK before park gets too busy.
Also in MGM you can get to ride TOT and RRC twice if you time it right.
When its extra magic hours in evening, you can relax a bit more i feel too. A longer lie, swim in pool, eat lunch out then be in park around 3 or 4 as parks can be open until 2am.
I wish they would start E Ride night up again, this was even better. Special ticket entry only, $10 or 20 if i remember, and only so many issued. You could walk on every ride with no wait. First time ive ever been able to ride splash mountain 3 tmes in a row without getting out boat !
So yes, the answer to our question is although Disney states park times say 9am till 12 midnight, the EMH's start 1 hour before this time and up to 3 hours after this time. Print them off for your 2 weeks you are going and you will have a handy ref to look at for planning your day.

Oh and if you do use EMH in the morning and are wondering about time to get up and get brakfast etc. Eat after you have done the major rides or just have cereal or fruit in your room as all moderate resorts and above have fridges for you to keep some milk etc in.

The EMH are in addition to the published hours on the calendar pages. Yes the parks are sometimes open until2am!
We love EMH! The evenings were especially good as more attractions are open than in the mornings and as time goes on it gets quieter as families disappear off to bed. Even in July the rides were walk-ons.
If we do morning EMH we would go to the park first then eat a late brekkie when the parks are getting busy.

In Epcot would both Future World & World Showcase be open 2 extra hours then? Sounds good :)
