Universal Studios' venerable Kongfrontation, one of the original rides when the park opened 12 years ago, will frighten its last tourists on Sept. 8.

The six-story tall soundstage that has been the home for the giant animatronic King Kong will be vacated to make way for what Universal officials describe as a "new mega-attraction" that they haven't disclosed.

Ohhhh noooooo

I was never too keen on this ride anyway.........

By the way, I don't know whether anybody has already heard this, but a rumour is going around that Back To The Future, the ride in Universal Studios, is going to be transformed into a rollercoaster! #,
I don't know whether this is true or not - It's just a rumour that I read on one of the websites I was looking at earlier........ #,

Anyway, I wonder what will be replacing Kongfrontation.....

Julie

You never know......

When you go to Orlando in October 2003, there might be something even better where Kongfrontation is standing now! .

Somehow, I don't think there will be a rollercoaster there - Maybe a restaurant or a stage show, or something like that .

Well,

Been there, done that - as Simon says (please note DW) - it's way past it's sell-by date.

I can think of a few others that ought to go.....(no names...)

Oh, I'll miss the chance for one last ride. I'd heard it wasn't closing until October... .

I liked it. Good fun. Still, wait and see what we get in it's place.

I want to stick up for Kong,

Yes it is cheesy but it is the animatronics that needed updating not the concept. What's next the Jaws ride closing down.

Kong could be turned into something wonderful, (if it was more 1920's than 1979). The new King Kong (a la Jeff Bridges is not great) and King Kong Lives is even worse.

However, interesting. I was behind a New York family and the Grandmother thought the architecture was wonderful as they explained to their younger children that they used to live in houses like this.

There is nothing else like Kong.

Big Mistake !

As a whimp on most rides I too would like to stick up for Kong, it is one of the few rides that I DO GO ON. Yes it maybe cheesy but I throughly enjoy this ride.

I heard it was going to be the Mummy ride. .

Our names are even on the wall, we sign it every time we go.

Why oh why can't they wait until after the 19th October. . .

I love king Kong -We will miss it if it closes in October, but they did say it was closing last year and it didn't.
A good idea for a replacement would be from the new Scooby-Do movie - It would make a great 'Spooky Island' .

well, I've never ridden it, so I'll be disappointed to see it go.

We missed just about everything last time we went to Universal because we spent most of the day at the Barney show!
