Katina, the park's 26-year-old killer whale, gave birth to a calf at 11:53 a.m. Sunday in front of crowds of guests at Shamu Stadium. The 7-foot long baby was born after an hour of labor. SeaWorld officials said that they are not certain of the calf's sex but it is doing fine, Local 6 News reported. Officials said that they are hoping the calf grows up to be strong and healthy, according to the report. The calf is the 17th killer whale to be born at SeaWorld's parks. Eleven of the whales have been born in Orlando.

We saw a Killer Whale birth years ago on one of our early trips. Everyone had to keep silent and they had lots of cameras running & trainers on hand.
They had put another female in the pool to keep her company. You could see when she had a contraction because her dorsal fin bent right over.
The baby just slipped out & swam straight under her left flipper. They swam round & round the pool like that just as if she was showing it off to everyone.
Suprise, suprise, the t-shirts were ready & waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has to rank among the most memorable things we have ever seen.
