Hi,
Please take the time to read all of this.

The DIBB is becoming busier and busier these days and unfortunately I have less and less time on my hands.

Just lately it's becoming very apparent that the members here want to know the reason for every decision the moderators or admin make. Every-time we edit, close, delete or modify something, someone will ask why? very often publicly sometimes via PM.

Whilst we will try and give reasons where we can, I ask you to please understand that this is not always possible.

I am asking you that if a thread gets locked, or removed that you accept that we have done so for the good of the DIBB as a whole.

There are many reasons why a thread or post may be locked or removed, including but not exclusive to the following

Personal Attacks
Totally Off Topic
Advertising
Reported by members
non suitable content
non compliance with our Rules and Policies
OP Request

The moderators are all unpaid volunteers and are here primarily because of their love of Disney, Orlando etc. They help me keep the site running smoothly by applying the rules and polices I set.

I wish we had the time to explain every action that we take, but unfortunately we all have lives away from the DIBB and can only devote so much time to it.

I will therefore ask you all to please be patient when it comes to posts or threads being removed or locked.

I fully understand that it can seem like a slap on the wrist, but none of our actions are aimed personally, they are taken to keep the site running smoothly and within the law, it's as simple as that.

I also know it's frustrating when you can't continue a debate or discussion on something because the thread has been closed, I feel the same when it happens to me on other forums but I just accept that is the way that forum is run and they will have their reasons, even if I am not aware of them.

If you do have a genuine concern and not just being curious then please do send a PM to the moderators or myself, we can't gaurantee a full response but atleast we will be aware of your concerns etc.

Thank you for reading this
I do hope that you will understand.

Have Fun
Stu

Hi, Stu when you lock a thread, can you still read it? and when you remove a thread, do you have the ability, just remove the offending post and leave the thread open?

it may be easier to do this, than remove.. in some cases anyway.. then you might stop all the questions and conspiracys the mods are having to deal with..

Just a thought!!! don't close this thread....if I have been controversal

I take it on board, but as a newbie, and i think with most newbies it is hard to get used to this place at first because it is so big and so many different areas. My very first post was locked down, but now i understand why. But even still now i am hesitant to make post because of fear it is wrong....It would just be cool to be told what it was we did wrong, as for someone like me i often found things like that difficult to understand...but im getting the hang...I will refer to this place n future if i ever get a post closed down or moved...thanks

Ahh but when you do this you can make the posts that have been left look bad, as they are out of context etc and not the reason the post was locked..
I say do what you like Stu its your website and I appreciate the time taken by the volunteers who moderate these boards :)

I too think you and the Mods do a great job, altough I have to admit to being one of those people who have questioned why a thread has been closed:blush: ,sorry.

Somtimes a mod has put a reason on the end saying why it has been locked i thought that was really helpful.I have posted on threads that have been locked and then felt terrible thinking i had unintentionally done something. But i get your point and of course you all do a great job and we are all grateful.:thumbs-up

Mods do a great and often thankless job, giving reasons for their moderating decisions is helpful to members, but we understand it is not always possible.
Keep up the good work Mods, we Dibbers love you for it :D

It really must be a difficult job being an owner or moderator of a public forum. Thanks for taking the job on and taking the flak from some of us too!!! Without you all there wouldn't be a forum for us all to enjoy.

I agree with the last post - it is very difficult to moderate a forum to keep everyone happy.
I ran one for over a year and it got quite big and heated at times. I relied heavily on my mods - all of who did it because of friendship to me for which I am eternally grateful.
There just came a time when enough was enough.
This site is well run and the mods do a good job. Sit back and think what you would do in their position. Some tough calls have to be made and it can be very hard knowing just where to draw the line.
At the end of the day Stu can do what he thinks is best and so he should.
I come here because I can have a relaxing half hour or so reading all the posts and hopefully learning and helping others in the process.

You know the saying, "you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you cant please all of the people all of the time". I think you moderators have a very difficult job which you all do extremely well, with sensitivity and common sense and i am very grateful for the opportunity to be member of the Dibb. Long may you continue.

You're right on the money Stu...this isn't "Big Brother's Big Mouth "...this is the best Disney/Orlando/Get the best out of you visit to Florida/ website there is !!! You lot do a great job putting and keeping it all together....just remember all those out there that once upon a time you knew very little/ nothing about Disney or holidays in Orlando. The Dibb is where is where, hopefully, people can learn, through OUR knowlage, how to have the best holiday ever and not have to trawl through "replys" to threads which are nothing more than "public p.m.s that mean very little to the majority of Dibbers !!! I know that we are not as "busy" on the Dibb as some, but we only reply to posts we when we feel we have a possitive input to the Thread. On a lighter note,it's 50 years this October since I first met the Mouse...my mother says Iwas asleep at the time but, hey, don't tell Mickey!!!! Keep up the great work!!

Just to add my comments to this. I am in complete agreement with the sentiments echoed herein and the Mods do an excellent job of keeping the whole site a suitable place for families to dip in and out of and all can be comfortable in the knowledge that children can go anywhere here and not see or read anything that may be offensive/abrasive/downright unpleasant.

Keep up the good work guys and long may this be the case.

There is a kidz-zone on the boards, Here (http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=107) "Get away from all the adults and chat with kids your own age. To gain access, just get your parents to PM SMAX or Stu"

Welcome to the Dibb both of you.
