View Full Version : Opinions of the Yachtsman steakhouse - Any good for a 'special' meal?
Our december trip to wdw is a trip to celebrate my 21st bday and even though my bdays actually in november, while we are there, I would love us to go out for one really 'special' meal to celebrate it (albeit a bit late ;)).
After reading reports (thanks to mcsue :) for her lovely ones) and looking at menus (primarily at the dessert part ;)) I was thinking about the Yachtsman Steakhouse! Even though I dont eat meat, dbf loves it and I heard their dessert platter is to die for!! Can anybody reccomend this restaurant as suitable for a romantic-ish, 'special' bithday meal?

It is one of the very few Disney restaurants that I have been to.
It was excellent but don't know how a vegetarian would rate it.
Its true......... the Desserts are fantastic.
Fortunately I wasn't paying because it was Fathers Day last year but it cost my son a packet:d: :d: .
Go for it:smile:

It is wonderful...and if you don't like meat...ask for the appetizer of diver's scallops in an entree portion. Make sure to ask for Ricardo to be your server!

It's a great restaurant, and the deserts are fantastic. Its always a bit difficult at some Disney restaurants to get that romantic feel because you can end up at a nice table for two with a great view, next to a table with a family on it suffering 'death by crayon'.
Myself and DW have been to Disney, as a couple, several times and always stay on site, so eat a lot at their restaurants, others to consider IMHO would be Artist's Point at Wilderness Lodge, California Grill at the Contempory resort, and Jiko's at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Have a look at the menus at www.allears.net
To pick out of the four already mentioned I would go for California Grill, but its obviously a personal choice. The food (and deserts) is fantastic and the view of the MK fireworks is one of a kind.
If you really want to splash out and want to get dressed up and be sure of a romantic atmosphere (no children allowed) then the only place is Victoria and Alberts at the Grand Floridian. I don't know if you've heard of it but its been voted THE best restaurant in Florida. Its v.v. pricy ($95 per person) for a 6 or 7 course gourmet menu plus an extra $50 per person if you want the wine package ( a different wine with each course).
If its a one off meal for a very special occasion then V&A is absolutely amazing, you just have to get your head round the price, but believe me ITS WORTH IT!:wavey:

Hi Faye  Glad you enjoyed the report :)
We had another delicious meal at YS in May and have already booked a table for October. So you can see we still love dining there. Your b/f will love the steaks, they are so juicy and tender.
Another special place for a romantic/special meal is Citricos at the GF. My steak there was also top notch. We've had some lovely meals there.
Cali Grill is also special but my steak wasn't spectacular and it can be very noisy (though you are very young and prob aren't so crochety about noise like me lol ) We've had one fabulous meal there and one not so good. We'll probably go back in October to test it out again ;)
Glad to read you are also going to dine at JIKO.
