View Full Version : Villa or Hotel - and why?
Probably been done many times before, but what sort of accomodation do you prefer and why?
Personally love Villa's. Much prefer the freedom and space that they give you, a real home from home. If we fancy a night in - then we can have a splash in the pool, watch some DVD's, kids can go on the PS2, how about the games room, knock together a nice meal or order in a take-away. To me that beats being stuck in a hotel room anyday!

For us the choice was more financial. It was a lot cheaper to rent a villa for 3 weeks than to stay in a hotel.
Also we have 3 kids, DS15, DD11 and DS9. Even hotel suites that have 2 rooms are not conducive to having kids all together like that and especially for 3 weeks and as I said before, it's just so much more expensive than a villa.
We've rented a 3 bedroom villa in July for 3 weeks for less than $2000 which is just over $90 a night for all of us for 22 nights.

Vacation home every time. Its rather nice when your walk in wardrobe is bigger than the average Disney bedroom:d: :d: :d:

I vote Villa too.. I just love the freedom of a home from home.. that and no noise through walls/ceilings from your room neighbours in a hotel.
We did Euro Disney a good few years back now, and stayed on site.. park was lovely but we got no sleep because of one side baby crying all night.. or other side must have been on honeymoon or something doing bedroom *cough* acrobatics EVERY night!

Villa everytime for us too - we are a family of 6 , myself, DH,DS,(22) DD (13) and 2 DS (4 and 5). If we stayed onsite or in a hotel/motel, we would have to have 2 seperate rooms and to me, we are on holiday as a family and we all want to stay together.
Plus my two youngest can get extremely excited and noisy, so to have a detached villa with a pool is a godsend.

Villa for us - much more flexible / comfortable but mainly because there are 5 of us and hotels rarely cater for families of 5 without having to get two rooms (therefore becoming expensive).
A villa for now:) As we are a family with 3 teenagers we need the space and privacy.
Next time when it's just DH, myself and DS1 maybe a hotel for part of the holiday.
When eventually it's just DH and me hopefully a good hotel near Disney;)

I voted for other - My favourite is Disney DVC accomodation, our 2 bed unit last year was huge. Its the best of both worlds with space and staying on site :thumb:

We stay in a hotel, there's only two of us and i like to come back to a tidy suite each night, fresh bedding and towels etc. I also like how, if we need anything we just have to phone reception and they'll sort it out for you.

It has to be Villa everytime for us, there is always 8 or more of us.
It just gives you so much freedom to come and go as you please, space to get out of each others way.
Your own pool where you swim any time of day or night ( 3am when jet lag sets in! ).
You can prepare your own food if you like, and breakfast is served all day when you have your own place!

Villa but of course I am biased!
I hate hotels mainly because of other peoples inconsideration and selfishness banging doors and shouting at all hours and kids out of control. These are not isolated cases either, although I do appreciate some people like the hussle and bustle of hotels but not me. I had to stay in a cra*py hotel on I Drive a few years ago that was used by Virgin and we moved out after one night because of the behaviour of other guests! I find it much more peaceful in a villa whether in be Florida or the Med and having your own pool and the independence to eat and do whatever you want whenever you like is superb and makes for my perfect and relaxing trip.
for me i would stay in a villa every time.
we love been able to just get up and jump in the pool, yes the pools are a lot smaller than a hotel but its your own!
nobody in the room next door or above making a noise.
i would say villa every time
love the freedom to pop kids in pool while i do iorning watching them have fun,if that sounds a bit sad its a mum thing !
love freezer full of lovely ice-cream for absolutly any time of day snacking
supermarket price beer while chilling out in evening
just the thought is bliss.
Voted Other as there are only 2 of us, so a hotel room is fine when we stay in WDW, but I do miss having a seated area. Enjoyed staying in a suite at Cypress Pointe for the extra room. So a DVC apartment would be my ideal!

We love villas too for all the reasons mentioned already and a few more! We also like to have a couple of nights in a hotel when finds and time permit just to break things up and for a change of scene but it's always lovely to get back to the space and seclusion of the villa.

In 1985 I stayed in a motel with my family in two rooms (6 of us in two rooms)
Boy have things improved since then (last family holiday as a kid with my parents)!!!
In 1995 I took my wife for the first time and we stayed in a hotel. This was perfect for the two of us.
In 2004 and 2006 I went with my wife, kids , brother in law with his family and outlaws. We stayed in a villa at Tuscan Ridge.
2006 & 2007 will be staying in my own villa.
So in summary. (In my opinion)
Hotels are better for couples or people who want others around them 24-7, will be burning the midnight oil and who want to be in the Disney parks earlier than everyone else. Dont want to drive.
Villas are better if you want more room, better value accomodation (per person or per foot), peace and quiet at the end of the day, not to be woken in the middle of the night by other guests, privacy, larger groups, cheaper food (eg. cook your own, BBQ etc) Not to be confined to bedroom when kids want to go to bed, Space to spread out around the house (eg kids and thier toys!)

Has to be a Villa for us as we have DD(14) and 2 DSs(11) so we would need 3 hotel rooms which would be really expensive. This year as it will be our last trip to Florida(probably!) we are staying the first 2 nights in the Hyatt Regency at Orlando airport and the last 3 at RPR with a villa in between.
Hotel or condo for us, we have only one child (and if we are not taking a friend with us) we like the idea of our son mixing with the other children around the complex
toni
If I had children then it would have to be a villa, for the extra room and own pool, but I would have to have maid service as there is no way I would even make a bed on my holiday, my idea of a holiday is to relax and be waited on (don't know how that would work out if I had children :confused2). As I have no children I always stay in Universal/Disneyhotels, I like being waited on hand and foot, and the convenience of the parks/restaurants on my doorstep.

Hotel for me, not having a car and wanting to stay in the thick of it all are the main reasons, it's great to step out of the hotel and have the choice of the i-drive a short walk away, without the worry of drink-driving - I wouldn't say I've stayed at the best hotels in Orlando (Red Horse, Wynfield and Sheraton World) but I've never had any of the noise issues that a lot of the villa users have mentioned (thought you only got that sort of thing in Ibeeefa!?? ;) )
As there is usually only three of us a hotel makes more sense, we only use it as a base anyway and are rarely in the room except for sleeping, anything else would be a bit of a waste. Plus, who wants to tidy up after yourself whilst on holiday?

Hotel for us!
Being non drivers is one reason, but i'm also a lazy mare who likes having everything done for her on holiday!;)
I enjoy a hotel atmosphere, especially when staying onsite!

We have enjoyed our two hols staying in hotels, but after the last holiday in a villa, the villa wins hands down for us. With 3 kids, the extra space is great, it also means that Mil can sneak off to her own room for a bit of peace and quiet when she needs it, The kids can go wild in our own pool without me having to constantly warn them to calm down for the sake of other youngsters in there (especially true of DS:rolleyes: ), having our own laundry also made the holiday easier - don't have to pack so much, no frantically searching for change for hotel machines, or hanging around waiting for one to be empty - I could just bung in the clothes at the end of the day, quick wash and dry and then put away in the morning PLUS - came home with no washing:D Oh, and loads of other reasons too, most of which have been mentioned already by others:D

Voted hotel as now there is usually only DBF and myself going on holiday, when my children were young I would have prefered the space of a villa.

Personally, Villa - but it can make you lazy, whereas in hotel your up ,out, & at them.

A villa without a doubt. You have the freedom to come and go as you please. Hotels are far too restricting and regimented for us!
Villa or Townhouse for us, we take 3 kids with us and there all grown up so each one needs there own space to retreat to.

Villa all the way for me...
Love the choosing .. sifting through loads of potential candidates then narrowing them down to perfection..
Love having a private pool and jacuzzi (heated by gas and to a nice temp)
Love being able to get up in a morning, grab a coffee, watch the sunrise while out by the pool ... all this and still in my jim jams ;)
love being able to go have a jacuzzi whilst your kids are asleep in bed, or have a nice peaceful swim..
I love having a barbecue or taking a chinese back to my accommodation and having at least a fork to eat it with..
love having loads of TVs so everyone can watch whatever they like or go and play table tennis..
love being able to walk into my wardrobe and do a twirl befor choosing what to wear.. and going to the loo while someone is in the shower or jacuzzi bath :)
gee I could go on and on..
as for making my bed .. how long to throw a duvet over it ;)

I chose hotel. I love hotels, especially if you get a suite. You have the best of both worlds, space, and 24 hour service on tap. When i'm on holiday i don't want to do ANYTHING remotely like chores, i like to leave my bed messy and come back and it's made, i like to feel hungry and pick up the phone and order room service at mid-night, i like the fact that the bathroom will get cleaned daily and not by me, i love chilling in the hotel bar and people watching and/or making new friends. Hotels all the way for me, each and every time! :)

villa for us, would also consider a townhouse - main reason is the space you have, hate being cooped up in a hotel room

I voted other - We like something in between.
....a townhouse on a community resort such as Regal Palms.
Best of both worlds....lovely pool facilities, club house, company for the kids and park buses ....as you get with a hotel.
......combined with all the freedom and cheapness of self catering (we loved not having to go out EVERY night to eat, especially after a busy day at the parks - it was nice to come back to beans on toast once in a while !), facilities to do your laundry so less to pack (and more room to bring back !) and loads of room like you get with a villa (and usually a bit cheaper).

It has to be a villa.
Reasons.........space, luxury, freedom, value, privacy, your own pool, being able to walk straight out of your bedroom to the pool before anyone else is awake in the morning, your own games room and pool table, all those TV channels.................
