Tampa or Orlando.

I have never driven abroad before and the drive looks better from tampa than Orlando.

Also the distance doesn't seem a huge difference, or am I wrong in thinking this.

I am wondering after the long immigration at Orlando, would Tampa work out better for us. Prices at the moment are the same quote for both airports.

Hi,

My DH and i are currently looking at accomodation and due to funds we've had to step away from the DVC disney resorts as we don't have enough points and the availabilty is low and we cant afford cash booking on them. So we are considering alternatives but I feel like my head is about to explode with all the options and some of my personal concerns.

Trouble is its a very long time since we've stayed off site and so I keep leaning towards a disney moderate, particularly Coronado Springs (as it has a gym) but im just concerned we will find the room so small and i really dont like the way the front door seems to open onto the bed and how most of them seem to be 2 beds in the room as opposed to 1 king. Also I don't do ground floor rooms and this looks likely at a mod :( but then again we'd be in disney, an environment we know, free parking, free buses...but then should we consider Port Orleans or Carribean beach is that better??!

Then i got to considering the universal resorts as i can get Royal Pacific for a good price and the front of line passes are very appealing, but then there's the wifi, parking and fridge charge (we plan to eat in our room to save money) and the distance from disney putting me off as we do visit disney a lot....

Next i thought about offsite and i quite like the Bonnet creek resorts but ive heard they hammer you about timeshare and again there is the extra costs. Also im confused about what resorts are there...ive found a good price at 'the orlando bonnet creek resort' but when i google it i can only find the Wyndham or Hilton??

I also looked at the following:

Buena vista palace
Hilton LBV
Stay bridge suites LBV
Hilton grand vacations international drive
The fountains
Floridays
Vistana
Marriott world centre

But I'm just not sure if they are miles away from places, have lots of additional costs of are going to try and pressure sell us a timeshare. I'm also worried that as we like to come and go quite a bit with the parks and I'm guessing we couldn't do that easily if we are off site?

Can anyone offer any advice or reccomend any of these resorts?

Oh I'm so confused, normally I find this stuff a doddle!

Thank you!!

Would ths improve his tan and
would the two lotion work against each other to give him no protection?

BTW we are off to lanzarote this year, so not as hot as Florida.
He will only do this in the second week.

Day Five - Thursday 6th June 2013 - Trip to Barcelona

Earlier in the week, we'd booked a coach trip to Barcelona with our holiday rep. Yes, it was more expensive than travelling to Barcelona ourselves via the train or bus. But, hey, we were on holiday so why not.

After a rushed breakfast in the morning - the breakfast at the Caribe only started at 8am and the trip started at 8:25am - we caught the coach at the rendezvous point. Of course, being a coach trip it took half an hour to go around the resort picking up folk from other hotels. Then it took another hour or so to get to Barcelona.

Thankfully our Liverpudlian guide, Eddie, was pretty amusing and knowledgeable so the time passed quickly.

First stop - Parc Guell. Originally, Count Guell and Gaudi meant this to be a housing development for 60 houses but in the end they only built 2, one of which Gaudi lived in. I think Gaudi spent all his time doing his mosaics!

The above photo shows Gaudi's old house. Anyway, we were given about an hour and a half to look around here. So here are a load of photos...

I have to say that this was probably the highlight of the trip. Parc Guell was pretty amazing - and we didn't even get to look in Gaudi's house nor the museum. You could probably spend half a day here without too much trouble.

Back on the coach, our next stop was the Sagrada Familia, the famous church by Gaudi. The bus stopped a little distance away and so we walked up and around it, looking at the wonderful architecture.

Even though Gaudi started work on it in 1882 it's still incomplete - hence all the scaffolding, cranes and work going on around it. It's a pity, because it means you can't really see much of the exterior on a couple of the sides (and it somewhat ruins your photos).

After getting some sandwiches and drinks for lunch, we strolled back to the bus and had a little tour of the city, seeing other Gaudi buildings such as Casa Mila (the Quarry) and Casa Battlo (House of Bones). We were then dropped off at the top of the Ramblas in the centre of Barcelona and given a couple of hours free time.

Unfortunately, we probably didn't make the best use of this time. We ended up just walking up and down the Ramblas and down some of the smaller alleyways instead of, say, visiting the cathedral nearby. We should have looked at the guidebook we had to see where to go. After tiring out our feet, we stopped in a little cafe for the usual afternoon ice cream and coffee.

At the Plaza Cataluna near the Hard Rock cafe, we then took the coach up towards the Olympic stadium where the 1992 Olympics took place.

Unfortunately, the stadium was closed as they were preparing it for a concert so we weren't allowed inside. Spending only a few minutes here, we headed further up MontJuic. There we enjoyed the views over the city of Barcelona.

That was our final stop. Subsequently it was back on the coach and then a long journey back to Salou - but back in time for dinner at the hotel! We'd spent just over 10 hours on the trip - although at least 3 hours of that were spent travelling to and from Barcelona. Still, we had a lovely time and saw quite a few marvellous sites.

Overall a pretty good day. I'd recommend a spending day in Barcelona if you can.

Our window was now open to use FP on Big Thunder Mountain, Blake was really looking forward to this as it will be his first 'big' ride, another one who's getting really brave! Only Monica sat this out, Paul loves this ride. It didn’t fail to please, great fun!

Daddy and his boys

Me and my girls

Sharon and Carl….yet another ride the kids have allowed them to sit together on!

It was past 11 now, and everyone was beginning to get hungry, we quite fancied Pinnocio Village Haus so we went to the train station in frontierland which took us back over to Fantasyland.

Here is my husband spoiling an otherwise perfectly normal photo!

Those willing quickly jumped onto Goofy Barnstormer, Tyler on the wheel of death, he really is upside down, honest!

(he would never be that brave!)

And a quick soaking in Casey Junior splash, soak, wet play thingy area!

Crowd levels are starting to pick up now so we head over to the restaurant, but decide to do it’s a small world first just to get it under our belts, Pinocchio's was really quiet still, we grabbed FP for peter Pans flight along the way.

This was a lovely ride…...for Monica! Lol not really, it was liked by all but is pretty tame.

Once off we headed back to Pinocchio's and it was now heaving! Still, the lines went quite quick, we were told to follow a lady who would find us tables, she wasn’t in a good mood evidently, not even a smile, and plonked us on a table that didn’t have enough chairs so we had to go around finding some! Blake then spilt his drink bless him but a nicer young girl came over to help clean it up, before getting him a replacement, she also got the cookies the kids were missing from their meals, she told us it was her first day, she was really sweet, the other one would do well to learn from her example!

We paid $48.08, the food was ok, cant really complain at counter service. Blake hadn't felt like anything hot so went for the kids sandwich, but he didn’t like the peanut butter and jam combo at all, ended up sharing my flat bread with me, and I rather enjoyed his sandwich!

The kids all wrote a wish in the 'write a wish' book as we were sat right next to it, we then left Mum, Sharon and Carl to finish their lunch whilst Paul, I and the kids went to find somewhere to sign up for Sorcerers of the Magic, we ended up by the christmas shop so not too far.

Lovely friendly women got us all set up and our first villain was actually set back in Fantasyland which was great as we needed to meet the others at Peter Pans flight. This was now showing a wait of over an hour, it’s a sweet ride but I could never wait that long for it!

Once we were off, Monica and Shanna were done for, but the other 3 kids wanted to carry on with the Sorcerers of the Magic, so we let Shanna go back to the villa with the others…….lightweights! They had managed about 7 hours (but they were long, hot, walky ones so we can forgive them)

So, we were down to 5, we got some serious park walking in and managed to complete 3 villians before we admitted defeat.

We all really enjoyed it, it’s a really impressive interactive system and we look forward to picking up where we left off (which apparently you can) when we return, our 'key' is put away nice and safe!

Found a photopass guy outside of the crystal palace who didi a load of different magic shots for us, shame Shanna wasn’t with us too though.

We quickly popped into the photo place to get our Belle and Jedi training photos added on to our photopass card, was lovely and cool inside!

Just as we were headed to the exit we heard a load of noise, and look who we got to see in a special parade!

The 'champs' then made our way back to the car, we had managed almost 10 hours and were pretty exhausted!

Everyone was in and around the pool when we returned, so we joined them!

After a couple of hours chilling, we all agreed that we were up for going to Hollywood Studios to catch Fantasmic tonight, we were under the dissolution that it would be quiet due to MK being open all night, we also thought that being past 8pm we would be able to get in the park without paying the $14 fee…………… wrong on both accounts!

On pulling up to the booths we were the only cars in sight, Paul mentioned to the attendant how quiet he looked and the chap laughed, saying it was 'rammed' inside!

And boy was it! We did manage to get a space close enough to walk along the lake into the entrance though.

Once inside, we could see what he meant, there were people everywhere! It was blooming Star Wars weekend! D'oh!

We decided to carry on up to the amphitheatre, just in case no one was watching Fantasmic tonight , and with a stroke of luck they weren't (yet) as there were some storm troopers doing disco dancing on stage and everyone appeared to have stopped to watch them…...bonus!

We had a choice of seats and grabbed ones at the top in the Jafar section so we didn’t have to fight our way out.

Carl and I went to get some drinks and nibbles, I got 4 souvenir buckets of popcorn and 6 sodas $37.81, a lot cheaper than the ADR we had originally booked at Mama Melrose, the preferred seating really wasn’t required!

I actually had my one and only bad bout of IBS while sat down watching Fantasmic! What a pain (literally) and I didn’t have any pills with me so had to grin and bear it. I don’t know why today, perhaps Id over done it a bit, but hey, if my kids can manage I can!

We had an excellent view and everyone loved it, such an impressive show, just a shame we only get to see it once.

The walk back to the car is slow, but in time we are all zonked out in our beds!

No rush in the morning, we're going to Epcot to do the Phineas and Ferb Agent P mission thing and world showcase.

Friday 24th May 2013 - MK's Monstrous 24 hour opening!

Wow, today is a long one so be warned! We took so many pictures and I have really struggled to thin them down…...so I haven't!

We had the alarms set for 5am today, Magic Kingdom was to be home of a Monstrous All Nighter!
Don’t get me wrong, we were never intending to do the all nighter, what we were interested in was the 6am opening time…...as you may have gathered throughout my report, we do mornings!

So up, everyone eager to go we scoff some croissants with jam and leave the villa in good time, pulling into MK just before 6, stopping at the parking booth but getting told to "carry on through"…….free parking, woohoo!

By the time we get to the main entrance and into the park its almost 6:30am.

There were camera crew everywhere and the whole area had a really buzzy vibe to it, it felt great to share this early morning with everyone.

We had promised Sophie that the first thing we do is to visit Fantasyland to meet Ariel ("as a mermaid"!)and go on her new ride, so we set off up mainstreet. (Sending the boys to get FP for voyage of the mermaid)

The sun hadn't risen yet so all the street lights were still on and everything looked so pretty, by the time we actually got to the castle things had brightened up a lot! Lol

Once in Fantasyland we found the sword in the stone, we all had the obligatory try, but with no success. I noticed a sign board that said the FP for voyage of the little mermaid is located at Philharmagic! Tried calling Paul but no answer, then the kids spotted them through the archways and ran to tell them where we were.

We grabbed the FP but was only showing a 5 min wait anyway!

The men had just as much luck as we did with the stone , pah!

At this time (6:45am) this part of the park was eerily quiet, we think perhaps more people were planning on doing the night part of the all nighter?! Oh well, good for us, no queues!

Seeing as we had FP for VOTLM we decided to go on Story Time With Belle, was showing a 15min wait.

The sun was rising now and was so pretty!

We went straight on into the cottage and took in all the cool surroundings, before we knew it we were following some CM's into another room…...magic happens here, though I'm not telling you what!

Even more magic happens in the next room when 3 of my children get chosen to play parts!

Sophie was Mrs Potts, Tyler was a guard and Blake was…..the Beast!

*a little side note* before we came away, Blake had decided that he needed to 'work on his roar', he really wanted to be in the lion section when we went to see the festival of the lion king at Animal Kingdom, and he wanted to tell Rafiki he had been too (which he got to do when we took the train to Rafikis planet watch, but I think I forgot to mention it)
He had been saving this roar for a special occasion, and this was it!

Absolutely perfect disney magic, when Belle came in the room and Blake was told to 'Roar' as best he could at her…….he did a grand job (as did the others) and got a special dance with Belle and a kiss. She said to Blake "Now don’t touch that", and he didn’t, it lasted all day x

We then had a look around the Be Our Guest Restaurant, I need to come here once in my lifetime, it looked like a dream, it was even snowing outside the far windows!

And the Gargoyles made great companions for my tribe!
