Agree with all the above as some insurance companies will try anything to get out of paying, especially if the bill is quite a big one.
DH had kidney stones which had all gone and he was discharged from the consultant but i still rang the insurance company and got them to note we had informed them
Didnt charge any extra, that was with the nat west but always better to be safe than sorry
