The Golden + Silver State Mega-trip! Sept 2014 [Day 19]

Sunday 14th September 2014

Day 19 - Santa Monica

Another lazy morning. Rob slept in till 10:30, I got up at 9 and continued making notes for my trip report. Had a breakfast of lucky charms and strawberries and got ready, left about 12. It took about 20mins to get to Santa Monica, we parked on 4th St in car park no5 it's free for first 2 hours. Parked up and decided to head down to the beach and pier first. Loads of people in the sea swimming and lots of sun bathers too!

Walked along the pier and watched the people performing and singing then at the top you had people fishing. Headed onto the beach and the sand was hot!

Made our way to Muscle beach to watch the body builders on all the apparatus!

There was a guy on the rings who was swinging himself so high up into the air and doing flips it was amazing!

You then had people who were practising gymnastics/cheerleading too. Walked along the front towards Venice beach, saw a crazy old homeless lady who was shouting at passers by - she later got removed by the Santa Monica police though.

It was hot today there was a heatwave going on in LA when we were there We walked for about 40 mins then decided to turn back and get lunch as we were starving! I had heard a place called the True Food Kitchen in Santa Monica was supposed to be good so we headed there. We got seated by a very friendly server. The idea is all the food is healthy and fresh made so no cokes or fries here. It suited me fine but Rob wasn't keen. I ordered a baby green salad and turkey and veg lasagne and a fresh juice which was a cucumber refresher. Rob ordered tacos and a honeydew and mint juice and he didn't like either of his!

The portions were small here so I'm glad I ordered a salad as well otherwise I'd still be hungry! Was quite an expensive bill ($56) so Rob was unhappy at price and he was still hungry We then headed towards 3rd street promenade to do some shopping. Stopped in a few shops then headed into the Apple shop. I had been wanting a Mac book for a while now and seeing as my laptop I currently had was snookered and I really needed one for going back to uni I thought I'd have a browse inside. It took ages for someone to come over and when she did I asked her what one she'd recommend for just general essay/report writing. She let me pick up the normal mac book pro and then the one with retina display to feel the weight and then went over the differences in them. I finally decided on the MacBook Pro with Retina display and asked about education discount as I know in the UK it's 15% but apparently in the states it's only $100 off. I quickly did a calculation in my head and I would be saving slightly so I opted to go for it only problem was I couldn't get the education discount without my passport they tried to convince me to just buy it now and it was only $100 off and wasn't that much in comparison to the price but it would mean I would just be as easier buying it in the uk so I declined and said I would come back tomorrow. Headed into a few more shops and went into Sephora and got a Tarte mascara, Nars bronzer and concealer ($98) got some samples as I'm a beauty insider member and had earned so many points. Headed back to the car as we had been in Santa Monica for a lot longer than we had planned it was now 5:30! Parking cost a reasonable $5.50 and we headed home! Watched the Bermuda Triangle on Netflix, then a show about escorts in Vegas didn't fancy heading out for tea so just snacked on the food we had in the apartment and then we watched the real story of the escape from Alcatraz in bed and fell asleep at 11pm.

Total food and other: $62
Katie: $98

Santa Monica looks so much busier than when we went, amazing the difference of a few weeks hey! We would have loved to have more time there to people watch.

Lunch looked good, sometimes you just need some greens!

We went on a Sunday so I don't know if that made it busy but there was a great atmosphere around! Yes some healthy food after far too much Chinese food!

We were glad we had the 3 weeks to see it all meant we could stay a bit longer in each place! Yes I agree I like to feel at home and I get that more with an apartment. Aww thanks I am going to miss writing it too I won't have any excuses now for not getting on with my dissertation!

Another good day - love Santa Monica .
I remember getting drunk in a British pub there - think it was called the Red Lion or something like that . Was a good few years back mind !
Nice relaxing evening for you after some shopping .
