Las Vegas - We're coming back! Day 5
Day 5 – Monday 30th March 2015 2015
Index is here Today I managed to sleep until the alarm went off at 10am! Oops. We snoozed for 15 minutes and then forced ourselves out of bed. We quickly packed everything as we were checking out of the Planet Hollywood today and heading over to the MGM Grand. We confirmed at reception that there was nothing to pay on the room and off we went! (I have put the $325 saved on the resort fee aside for our NY/Florida trip this October, I’m thinking maybe Discovery Cove again! ). We tipped the valet $5 and set the sat nav to the Stratosphere to get us there as quickly as possible. We still managed to get confused, its very disorientating when you’re coming up the side of the hotels and sometimes we think we are on the strip when we're not. We found it before long though and managed to find the car park straight away too! We valet parked for speed and head into the hotel. It seems we took a wrong turn at first and it took us an age to get to the tower entrance. Once we found it we used the machines to purchased tickets. Laura was $20 just for observation, me and Aaron were $25 each as we were riding the Big Shot. We got through security quickly and were soon in the lift heading up to the 108th floor, we had a quick look around, spotted a lovely looking carvery sandwich place which we noted for lunch later and then headed up a further few floors to the outside observation deck. The views were amazing. We watched people on the other two rides, the one that is like a claw going over the edge looked like good fun and I would have been happy to go on it but Aaron wasn’t keen. The other one though, OMG, no thanks! Im not usually one to chicken out of rides but it just looks hellish! We took a few photos and enjoyed the view before heading up slightly further to the Big shot. Sorry for all the pics but its breathtaking up there! Laura wasn’t allowed to follow us up so she positioned herself on the deck below to take our photo while we were on the ride, thankfully we got to sit in the seats within her view. The ride was incredible, such a rush of adrenalin as your waiting to be shot up and then far too quickly it’s all over. I would definitely do it again though, a real highlight! Once we found Laura we head back down to the lower floor and sought out the sandwich place. We each had a meal deal of a turkey sandwich, crisps and drink for $12 each. Aaron declared it the ‘best sandwich’ he has ever had (with the exception of the Friendlies Supermelt), so that was a big thumbs up. It was really lovely, fresh roll of choice, hot carved turkey or beef & then a toppings bar you could go to town on! YUM! We sat in a booth and ate whilst appreciating the amazing views on offer. We head out of the hotel not long after and made our way to the MGM Grand, again we found the parking with ease. There was a bit of a queue to check in but it was quickly whittled down and we were soon being seen to. Originally our rooms were on different floors but the lady did manage to change that for us and made it that we were both on floor 10, albeit at the end of two different corridors. We also mentioned that it was Laura 50th and she made sure she had the better view of the two rooms. It was about 2.30pm at this point and with check in not officially open until 3 we were pleased to be given our room keys. Edited at 11:17 AM. |

We found the lifts and made our way up, helping Laura to her room first. We hadn’t mentioned to her that we had booked a suite so she was chuffed to bits when she opened the door. The room wes a great size and she had a good view of the Mandalay Bay / Luxor / NYNY. There were also air spa baths which looked divine!
Laura’s view We left her to get settled in as we walked to our room, one long walk from the end of one corridor to the end of another! Our room was exactly the same, just flipped 180 degrees and we had a slight view of the Cosmo. We were all pretty pleased. Me and Aaron head back down to the casino and sought out the MLife desk as I only had until 4pm to pick up our KA tickets for the nights show. This time it was me signing up to Mlife and again it was really simple, she also pre loaded my other reward of 2 buffet breakfasts onto the card ready for the last morning. We then popped over to the KA box office and grabbed our tickets. With that sorted we were ready for a bit of south strip exploring so we grabbed Laura and set off over the foot bridge to the NYNY. We had a wonder around Hersheys World noticing that the giant Reeces butter cups that were on offer for $5 at IT Sugar were priced at $16.99 here! We walked along the new patio area and had a look at the 9 Fine Irishmen restaurant as it was an option for tonight’s dinner, the area looked lovely and it really reminded me of the Raglan Road set up at DTD. Back into the MGM we had a wonder around the restaurants on offer there and came across PUB, the menu looked really good and we decided that for ease & time restraints we would be best to eat in the hotel this evening. Im not sure why we didn’t book a table at the time, but we decided it would be here we would eat this evening. We were back in the room by 6pm leaving me and Laura enough time to enjoy the baths We arranged to meet at the central lift area between our rooms at 7.30pm and for once Laura beat me and Aaron! We head down to PUB where we checked in and were given an estimated wait of 25 minutes, we checked that we were likely to get in and out by 9pm in time for our show and they confirmed that that wouldn’t be an issue so we head in and propped up the bar whilst waiting for our table. I ordered a Pink Elephant, Aaron had an Old Fashioned and Laura had a lemonade. I paid for the drinks but didn’t make a note of the cost. We were called to the table at 8pm and placed our order soon after. We started with pretzel sticks which came with a cheese sauce and poached egg We were a bit intrigued at the egg and considered asking for it to be left out but in the end we forgot. It turned up floating in the middle of the dip, I dug it out with my fork and dipped my bread into taste it, it was actually a nice addition. Mains wise I had the BBQ sampler, I had seen a gentleman at the bar eating the brisket and it looked amazing. Aaron had the double smoked burger and for Laura they did her a well cooked chicken breast with a loaded jacket and veg. It was all really nice thankfully and we had a really lovely meal there overall. I would definitely recommend it to others going soon. We paid the bill which seems quite pricey but im thinking maybe we ordered a couple more drinks that I forgot to note down. It was $124 plus a $25 tip & Laura paid $40. We were finished just on time at 9pm and made our way over to the KA theatre well in time for the 9.30pm start time. We were in and seated quickly and we had really good seats, right in the middle, both from side to side and from middle to back and also on an isle which was ideal if we needed to escape to the loo! Before long the show started, what can I say!? It was absolutely amazing! There was so much to look at right from start to finish and the story was easy to follow too. I would love to see it again at some point. The show was finished by about 11pm and we were back up on the room watching Jimmy Fallon in bed by 11.15 after a really enjoyable day & evening.
